I put LEDs in my 92Z cluster, when you say you can't take it out what is the problem? You should be able to remove it.

I used LED strips in mine, to get a more even color:

Oh you have to remove the ****, get the bezel loose and then look up under the **** where it shaft goes into the switch. You should see a little tiny button on the bottom of the switch. Take a long screwdriver and push that button in and pull on the ****. It should come off, it's a pain but should come off.

Ya I did a full out retro for the tail lights.
There is a thread on here I started that went through the build. Do a search under my name, and you should be able to find it.

If you're going to do LEDs in the tail lights, a full retro is the way to go. Don't try the plug/play things you see online. They are just not bright enough in the day, and you'll either get rear ended or pulled over.

The 91 cluster is electronic no cable, once he gets the bezel off he should be able to get the cluster out by just tilting down the wheel. I didn't have to lower the column on mine.
