Put heritage stipes on but not sure if I like them, help me decide
I had the car painted about a month ago. The paint turned out great. I had the blisters painted black because I was going to put black heritage stripes on it. I was surprised that I actually liked the look of the blisters black and the rest of the car white. Now that I have the stripes on I'm not sure which way I like better.
I had the heritage stripes put on by a graphics company today and the install didn't go well. the stripe under the spoiler didn't go on right so I had it removed. When they removed it they scratched up the paint. And you can see a different texture in the paint where the decal was. It also looks like they laid something on top of the car and scratched it. For now I've left the rest of the decals on until I decide what to do. They actually printed another set of decals for under the spoiler and gave them to me if I decide to put them on. I was made enough I didn't even want them to touch the car anymore at that point so I put the spoiler back on and went home.
Which way do you think looks better? Stripes or no Stripes

since you have black blisters, definitely keep the stripes.

I've never been a fan of the Heritage paint scheme. It's not that I hate it or anything it's just not my first choice for paint schemes on 3rd gens. I agree with some others that the black blisters you have now look pretty good, better that the complete strips, IMO.

I like them! Black stripes look really good on a white car. I was thinking of doing grey stripes on my vert. Are they like the vinyl decal material where you just stick them on?

They are vinyl but you put a soapy water solution on the car and the decal. Then get the decal placed where you want it and squeege the water out then it sticks. I like the car both ways but I'm leaning towards taking the decals off, not quite happy with the install and I don't want to hassle with installing them again. I should have chosen a different company but you never know until you give them a try. Just worried about the paint if I take them off.

Man I really think that the black stripes complete the look. The black blisters to me look out of place. Like you bought them off some black car and added them to your car. I would really think long and hard before removing the stripes. It looks GREAT!!!

Mine are based on the heritage design, but are painted on. Yours look good, I would keep them.

I think it looks great, its a big change to the car, I would sit on it a few days until you are used to it.

The scratches are minor and can probably be buffed out. The front decals have a few imperections in them too they say they will most likey go away after a couple of days in the sun..not sure about that? The paint turned out spectacular, any defect in the decals stands out...drives me crazy. I should have just had them painted on and been done with it.

I agree 100% if the blisters would have been painted white then I would say no stripes, but now that you have them and the blisters are black I say keep them.

Re: Put heritage stipes on but not sure if I like them, help me decide
Thanks for the input everyone!
I like the car both with and without the stripes but wasn't happy with the quality of installation on the stripes so I pulled them off(the flaws were driving me crazy). If the installation was better I would have kept them. After going through this I won't be putting them back on. I wouldn't trust the company that installed them to put decals on my lawn mower. So much for having it done by professionals, I could have done just as well or better myself and not scratched the car up.
I spent about half a day taking the stripes off. I looked at the car a lot closer under the lights in the garage and found scratches surrounding every stripe. I also noticed that the rear stripes had a heavy glue under them and the front did not. By the looks of the scratches it looks like the rear stripes had been moved. I'm guessing they installed the rear stripes first then realized they were in the wrong place when they did the front and tried to move them? Its hard to say but the install just wasn't good.
Used the wife's hair drier to heat the vinyl and help pull them off. The front had a little glue residue, not too bad. But the rear was terrible, very thick glue. Rubbing alcohol wouldn't touch the glue on the rear stripes. Goo Be Gone was a little better but finally I tried Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover and it worked well. I had been using the Bug and Tar remover to get the rubber off the rear quarters on the 84...turns out it works well on glue too just have to let is soak for a few minutes. Then I used goo be gone to get the remaining residue and it all came off very well.
Good news is that the scratches aren't too deep so I'm confident they can be buffed out. I kinda like the black blisters for something different but I would like to find another set to paint white for the stock look. That way I'll have the option of going with either look. I'll take some good pictures once I get the paint buffed out and make another thread for the paint job.
