My red 92 RS over the past two years
My car's evolution over the past year and a half. From factory steel hood to 82 SMC hood to dipped SMC hood and now to polished/buffed and plastidipped inserts 82 SMC hood with plastidipped buckets... The front ground fx were swapped with a piece I got here off TGO a while back... lucky for me it was red and the paint actually turned out to be really nice on it!
Today:
Tasteful plastidip can go a long way... along with some good old fashioned buffing when it comes to faded single stage paint...

Re: My red 92 RS over the past two years
I probably already told you this story, but that cowl hood had some issues. I had some serious fiberglass rot going on and it could probably have been fixed but I just didnt have the time. I traded it for some IROC louvers but I found this hood before that setup went on the car. All that plus this is only a 13 second car... I don't really think the car is fast enough to warrant a cowl hood, plus it had to be converted to a lift-off so it was kind of annoying to get to the engine. I decided I wanted something a little more low key, but that was by far my favorite of all the cowls I see on these cars. It really did look awesome.

Re: My red 92 RS over the past two years
I got my new wheels mocked up. The goal is to have some Nittos on these by March 23, the next autocross. The first two pics are of my 17x9.5.
Unfortunately my measurements were apparently wrong on my 17x11's, and they stick out a half inch on each side of the car. Apparently these need the 1.25 inch adapters instead of the 2 inch ones. 1.5 is probably safer, but but I measured over an inch of clearance to the inside of the wheel on each side of the car, so I figured I'd take the chance and BFH what I need to to make these things fit and look better.
This is with the 2 inch adapters.
Now my dilemma is whether to return them and pay shipping and a restocking fee, or keep them for the day I get a full set of 17x9.5's (or C5 Z06 wheels) on the car. The 17x11's are kind of nifty but tires cost more and they're harder to find. Im not sure Im really going to see any benefit.
And for those whom it may concern... the 2 inch adapter was fine in the front. ZR1's need a 2.25 inch adapter, but since I have LS1 brakes the rotor adds thickness to the hub stack. The clearances to the strut and the ball joint are VERY tight.. between 1/8th and 1/4th of an inch, but it definitely clears.

I'm paying close attention to this; I'm considering stuffing 315s in my car... I'm on the fence about it as of now.

The tire selection for 17x11 is awful. There's 30 race tires and 4 street tires in that size basically. But this is the set I was able to find locally (on frrax, actually).
I wish I could justify putting NT01's on there, but I think Im just gonna run NT555s or maybe some Sumitomos. Ive got to make some priority decisions...

Re: My red 92 RS over the past two years
I figured I'd elaborate on the tire selection.
These are the options:
Sumitomo HTRZ
Acceptable tread life, no grip, terrible transient response. 180 treadwear tire... wtf?
$620 delivered for set (2x 275/40/17 and 2x 315/35/17)
Nitto Nt555
Seems like a little bit better tire than the HTR-Z, but still has soft sidewalls, great tread life.
$650 delivered for set
Nitto NT05
Great grip and cornering ability, between 5k-15k miles tread life just commuting. TERRIBLE treadwear.
$710 delivered for set
Kumho Ecsta XS
Seems like a good all around tire, out of my price range so I havent looked super hard at it. Sub 200 treadwear rating.
$950 a set
Nitto NT01
Even worse treadwear than the NT05.
-No
Goodyear F1 GS-D3
-No.
So my options for autocross and over 200 treadwear (I want to stay eligible for the Classic American Muscle class) are NT555 and NT05 and GS-D3's.

Re: My red 92 RS over the past two years
My input from the NT05 I had on my car before I sold it is that I didn't care for them only had them on the rears 315/35/17 they didn't hook good enough for how good they are talked about. im going with the NT555 this time around.

Re: My red 92 RS over the past two years
Okay so I ended up with NT555's.... They should be here Monday.
In the meantime, I wanted to say that the adapters I got from from lugs-n-stuff on ebay fit fantastic. They are a very snug fit on my rear hubs and a very snug, tight fit on my ZR1 wheels. I really like them. Ironically, they dont fit snug at all on the front wheels. So maybe that's why there's so many discrepancies about hub diameter on these cars. The front hubs on my car are at least a mm or two smaller than the bore of the adapter. Kind of odd if you ask me.
Anyway, this is with a 2 inch adapter.
This is a 1.25 inch adapter:
Looks like most of the BFH'ing is going to be in the front of the wheel well. I need to get a good bfh for that....
I'm working every day next week so Im not going to get a good chance to get my Nittos mounted until NEXT monday, but after that.. it should just be a matter of how much hammering I need to do and it's ready to roll.
