My Blue 1986 IROC-Z – Finally!

Greetings all! I’ve been out of the third gen game for 10 years. I sold my 88 TA, 92 RS and 91 parts car in order to buy my 1969 Olds F85 back in 2007. I have wanted a blue IROC (ideally a 1986) since I was 16 (in 2002) but the right car was never available at the right time.

I want to say that this is a fantastic community. I found so much information here back in the mid 2000s and since then I have continuously found myself back here as the result of Google searches looking for detailed explanations of how things work not necessary related to third gens. I find it rather ironic considering the ******* stereotype many have with these cars.

I’ve owned a lot of cars since then with my F85 being the only constant. But every so often I’d look for a blue IROC. About six weeks ago a car caught my eye and after some back and forth it found it’s way into my driveway.

The car appears to be very original. 87k. Low output Rochester topped 305 with a T5 behind it and 3:23 single spin. Mods include: steering wheel replaced (sale included original), muffler replaced with straight pipe (cat still there as it was subject to emissions tests even in the 90s), some Fast and the Furious inspired blue underbody lights, and the headlight and taillight blackout covers. (I’d like to remove them but am afraid to do so).

I’m curious if anybody might know if my paint and/or strut/shocks are original?

Someday I plan to do a 6L/T56 swap but for now I just want to fix small issues and enjoy it as is.

Thanks for looking!
