One of the 57 things my ailing pro didn’t get to of course...
sofa has a funny rant somewhere as to the “stone age” quality of the stock starter.

Mine's definitely not too far away from death. If I let the car sit for a few days, I have to turn the key 2 or 3 times to get it to start cranking. Looking forward to robbing my account of another few hundred $'s

Yeah I’ve found the opportunity to spend “just a little more money” with these is ever-present.

Me on getting the car “Oh I’ll just leave these I don’t care”

Me today with the Hawks sale “Hmmmm...”

Little details that you see every time you get in the car can make a big difference.

Oh man that would bother me. There's the smallest stain on my drivers seat that most people wouldn't notice or care about, but I stare at it every time I get in haha

20% off and free shipping to Canada? Ordered. Good billet upper door bushing kit qualifies too.

Re: New addition - 89’ Iroc 350

Update time. Installed my new Delphi MAF last night and instantly the CEL went off, and the car starts much quicker than before. Idle feels a little low to me at about 550 in drive and about 600 in park, but it may be because I'm just not used to it. I did notice though that the very slight passenger side manifold leak has become pretty sassy, which is nice. I also hear what sounds like a tapping or something, but it's tough to tell what I'm hearing with the exhaust leak covering the sound. I still have to take care of the passenger side valve cover leak as that's also pretty aggressive and making a bit too much smoke for my liking. The war goes on

Also, quick shot of the engine bay after a quick WD40 cleanup. It was filthy before, so looking at it all shined up and without a broom stick holding the hood up made me want to show off. Too bad you can't see the smoke and exhaust hovering around, it really made a nice ambiance

I came across this car too while scrolling through local Kijiji. It's one of 29 5 speed 92' GTA's, which is pretty cool and awfully rare. It's way too much money, and he's been trying to sell it for about 3 years now, but still a cool car. If it was more like 4k, I'd already have it home

Nothing like the smell of burning oil in the morning! Especially off the exhaust manifold!. Looks really nice. It cleaned up really well. You should put a dizzy cover on your parts list, it just looks like something is missing...oh it is.

It's quite soothing for sure. And don't remind me .. I robbed it off this car to put on my GTA, and then forgot to take it off when I sold the car

How have I missed this thread? Looking great!! Nice work getting her going, hope to see it person some day. Was the valve cover gasket easy? I think I have one in my future to do, can smell it a bit after long highway run.

Thank you! When I saw how clean the car was, and realized how much it's been loved its whole life, I made it my mission to bring it back and get it going. I haven't done the passenger side yet, but the driver side was pretty easy. The only frustration will be the amount of stuff that I'll have to move out of the way to get the cover off

I've had good luck getting stains out by spraying a little "Shout!" laundry stain remover on it and rubbing it with a clean cloth. Usually the stain comes right out.

I don't think so, it sounds like it's coming from under the valve cover. Could also mean that I'm just hearing the exhaust though, the tapping isn't loud enough for me to be sure what I'm hearing. It also doesn't increase with throttle, it seems to go away but once again, tough to hear

Usually I use the carpet cleaners in the aerosol cans with the brush on the end. Works pretty well, just haven't had a chance to give the seat the treatment

White Vinegar is the solvent for coffee stains. Old style Hairspray for ball point ink. PB Blaster for ink on leather. TRY IN INCONSPICUOUS SPOT FIRST!

op, what LED YOU TO DIAGNOSE THE MAF AS BAD?

I never knew about the PB blaster for ink, I could have used that a few times over the years. As for the MAF, I replaced everything else that could be sending a code 33, and with each part I replaced, the car ran better so I knew that the replacements were operational. Lastly it came down to a funky idle, 30 year old MAF, and a code 33 that wouldn't go away. Considering the Delphi replacement was only 180 CAD, I figured it's a good time to replace it regardless.

Re: New addition - 89’ Iroc 350

Listened a little closer to the tick that I previously mentioned, and it sounds like it may be the injectors. Has anyone else put the Bosch 22lb's in their L98? Are they typically noisy?

Also, gave the car a few revs by the throttle cable directly and noticed that there's a slight hesitation with quick flicks. Could that be a vacuum leak? I couldn't find any, but there are also a million places that it could be that I may have missed.

I also noticed a hissing sound coming from the rear of the car, I believe it's coming from the exhaust. I have a fuel pressure issue in my tank so I was thinking it could be that, but it goes away the moment I shut the car off. It were tank pressure I'm hearing, the pressure wouldn't go away the second I turn the car off, correct?

Lastly, when you turn the car off, there's a boiling sound coming from the rear of the motor, somewhere near the distributor. It's not abnormal to hear coolant boiling in the lines after shutting the car off, right?

All opinions are invited here! I'm not a trained mechanic, nor do I have someone to work along side, so I'm learning everything as I go. Sorry if they're beginner questions.

I saw that and it's pretty sweet, especially with a 5 speed. It needs paint and doesn't look as clean as my car though, and truthfully I've been enjoying driving automatic. My cars have only been manual for the last few years and battling that QEW every morning gets a little tiring on the ol' left leg!

There maaaaaaaaay be a conversation going on between myself and the owner of a square body blazer with an LS swap and full convertible conversion ..

I am not a trained mechanic either but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
That ticking sound is most likely the Bosch 3's. My buddy used the 19# variety and his are noisy also. Those also could be the culprit of the hesitation as most who use those end up needing a tune, they tend to run lean. The hissing sound from the rear could just be normal fuel pump operation. Mine makes kinda a hissing sound when sitting running at idle. You are correct in if it was a pressure leak you should at least hear the bleed down. The boiling sound is most likely a air leak in the cooling/heating system. I am familiar with bubbling sound in the catch tank when there is a air leak but never heard the sound from behind the dizzy. Check the connections for the heater lines at the firewall. The heater core is behind the connections in the cabin side of the fire wall so try to put your ear under the pass side dash of the car and if you hear the burbling better, chances are you have an air leak in the core.

Nothing wrong with putting some time and effort into this car Keats, you got a smoking deal on it and it sure cleaned up great.

Thank you for the input! Helps put my mind at ease knowing that you don't think it'll explode haha. I'll have a closer listen later and see if I can hear the leak from inside. I'm hoping it isn't the core..

As for the car, thank you! It has certainly come a long way since the day I found it. It's definitely exciting to get a new car, but even more so when you save one from who knows what kind of fate

I don't think I will honestly. It's a sweet truck but I'm not a fan of heavy modifications, so I think I'll pass. I will however trade for an unmolested Blazer/Jimmy/Bronco as long as it's 4x4. I have nothing to drive when winter gets here as usual haha. I did also post the car up for 7500, and I'll probably take the cash from the person who offers over 6500. I love it, and I have no problem keeping it, but I'm an open roof guy and I always catch myself wishing that I had ttops.

Or a Vert!

If I had the space and the time I would love to have the car. It would be a great candidate for a semi resto sleeper build using the original 350.

I like verts too, but something about the lines of these cars in coupe form reaaally get me. Mind you, looking underneath and not having rotten floors from 30 years of the tops leaking is definitely nice. If I keep the car, which there's a good chance I will, this is the style I'd be after. Same spoiler and stance, with minimal cosmetic mods. I'd go with the 17in gold GTA's on my car though, as I think they'd look wicked with the black and tan.

Also full disclosure, that car belongs to someone I follow on Instagram. I won't say his name, and I'm not sure if he's part of TGO, and hopefully he's alright with me using a pic of his car. Just an example of Camaro goals

[QUOTE=RKeats;6313617]Also full disclosure,

When I bought mine I was looking for a t-top 5 speed car, I can tel you this I would not trade my vert with the auto for the options I just mentioned I did not realize how much I love my car because of the vert. This is coming from a car guy that hated convertibles all his life, except Jeeps,
I don't know what it is about the 3rd gen vert that just drew me in. I have been jealous of my best friend who has a hard top, 5-speed, 92 G92 ever since he has owned it since 93. A/C delete away from a 1LE I tried to all get out to buy his car and he just would not sell it to me. Best thing that happened as I never would have found my car, a convertible none-the-less, and now I think the only jealousy is him as I think he may like my car more than his! Maybe .

Yeah lotsa guys prefer hardtop because “racecar” but for a car that only gets driven in the summertime (in Canada no less) I prefer T’s (or a vert, generally speaking) as well. Buuut remember it’s not like closing a convertible top...if ya park outside at your place it’s especially a PITA cause anytime there’s the slightest chance of rain overnight you’re throwing’em on....only to take’em off bone dry 3 times out of 4 the next morning for a sunny drive in. If you love your car you don’t really mind “the ritual” but it’s not a 30 second process. (Another time I misjudged the weather and did it on the side of a highway while being rained on, for instance.)

While some would take issue I’d have no problem popping some model below into a hardtop *provided it was 100k klicks or more*...hell this joint may even give ya a similar sticker as the actual vert thirdgens “from the time”!

My uncle had a 5 speed IROC vert that he had some some stuff to, and I remember watching him carve a crater in the driveway with the most wicked burnout my 8 year old eyes had ever witnessed. I love them, but my Mustang is a vert so I like having one of each. Not to say I'd turn down a good deal on one

It never really bugged me with the GTA. I also park inside and I don't daily the car, so when I go out I'd usually just throw the tops in the trunk or lean them against a wall down stairs and off we go. When I got back, I'd just rest them back on without actually latching them.. and yes I know the horror that can come with forgetting that they aren't latched in and driving off

I've unfortunately already seen it, and had some glossy eyes when I did When I got that car, the interior was trashed, and it took me a few years to find the perfect seats and carpet and everything. I put so much work in to making that car nice and clean inside and now it looks filthy, and has a pack of darts sitting in the passenger floor. Also has a butch *** spoiler on it, and the terrible looking 4th gen rear end. What a shame to have such a rare car just go to waste

Re: New addition - 89’ Iroc 350

Been driving the car a bunch the last few days and really got a reminder of how much I love it. I gave it a good detail, and went around and touched up and stone chips and deep scratches, so the nose specifically looks much better now. Also stupid question, but how do you mount the front license plate?? Is there supposed to be a factory mount? I just zip tied my plate on temporarily, and I don't like it.

Also somewhat related.. the YJ I traded my GTA for decided to blow it's motor while on a drive yesterday. Idle was a bit funky, then came the symphony of bone rattling piston knocks. Mint. I suspect the oil pump failed, as the dipstick showed plenty of oil, but it was pretty dry under the valve cover. Looks like it's time for a TJ 4.0.

Sorry to hear about the Jeep. Perhaps RockSpyder can help source an engine for you.

For the license plate there is a bracket. It mounts in 3 places around the Camaro logo. You’ll need to drill them out, you’ll see the dimples in the mold for location.

That’s the screw I used, not sure what is oem correct.

Is he a Jeep guy on here?

As for the plate, thank you! I have the 3 holes already drilled in my grille, but they look off and don't come anywhere near fitting a plate so I just assumed they were from butchery

Ya you just need the bracket. I got one by posting on FB, on the SW Ontario iroc owners page and someone had one.

RockSpyder is a business specializing in Jeeps. Heritage Road, Markham.

Sweet. And I'll have to give him a call, thanks for the suggestion!

Any chance you have an inexpensive connection for paint correction?

Lol! I wish. I’m in London so I don’t get up that way often. Rock Spyder installed a TJ engine and trans for a friend into his YJ and was happy with the work. if I recall correctly the owners name is Jim, and he was able to broker the the engine through another customer that was upgrading. Primarily an off-road place but knows his stuff. He has a built rig you can see on YouTube.

What a smokin deal!

That is a STEAL!!! 89 G92 5 speed. It has the 5,500rpm tach so it's an N10 dual cat car with the 230hp 305. (That was only an89-90 deal in the IROC'S) I wonder if it's an actual DX3 stripe delete, too. Looks like a blue older brother to my car!

Ain’t it? $6K USD ask for a 70K mile manual G92. ...Can you really deduce just from the tach it has N10? I thought only if it was first half ‘89 build i.e. you’d need eyes-on-verification to know? I wanted to visit it to see for sure (and check the quality of the paint and underside) but didn’t wanna waste the guy’s time...thought it’s awful close...hmmm lol
