It doesnt show well in that pic but there were 2 metal clips just in front of the lights and it just had a piece of plexiglass slid into them. At one point the SCCA Pro Racing decal went from being on the hood to being on the block off.

A few more hours this morning and got the hatch blocked in 320, scuffed the hatch jamb, scuffed the rear bumper cover and scuffed the rear spoiler pieces. They will get gray epoxy next. Also pulled the tail light harness and mostly blocked the hood. I have a few small areas to address on it.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Blocked the spots out on the hood this morning so now all that is left on it is to fix the hole where the safety cut off switch was and 3 small chips on the front.
Sanded the 3 rear spoiler pieces in 320 and then blocked out the last repaired spot on the front edge of the roof.
I wasnt sure if I was going to spray any epoxy today but was making pretty good time so went ahead and scuffed the mirrors, gas cap door and the front bumper cover in 180 and then sprayed 2 good coats of epoxy on them. I have some cosmetic repairs to make on the bumper cover but wanted a good sound base before doing so.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Went back down in the afternoon and washed all the dust off the car, installed the headlight bar into the bumper cover and just set them on the car. Still have to make repairs on the bumper cover and finish the hood but both will be coming back off to set the engine and trans in it.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Ended up having to modify all of the panels except the rear center one. I'll clean them up before the final install but can finish painting the cage now.
. /modified and moved forward.
.
.
. A pillar molding.
. Had to cut it in half and then split it horizontally.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Pulled the interior plastic back out today so I can clean them and then sanded the parts of the cage that didnt get sanded the other day. First coat of paint on those and second coat on the others. I'm not doing the door bars until I'm mostly done climbing in and out of the car working on it. I also need to sand the underside of the roof [keep forgetting] and then paint it in flat white like the cage.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
The hood repair is done and blocked in with 320. Sanded the lower spoiler a couple of times and epoxy coats and then pulled it off and 2 final coats on the bumper cover and a light one on the spoiler. Both get final blocked in 320 next.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
The grill looks to have been repainted several times and was rough due to lots of rock chips. I sanded the large areas but to get the area around the letters clean I had to bead blast them. It has 2 coats of epoxy on it now.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Bumper cover, lower spoiler and grill sanded out in 320 so now all the actual body work is done. Will get a final sand and then a wet sand after the engine is setting in it.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
I'm at the point where I need to push it outside and pressure wash the shop but we've had rain day after day and calling for it again all week so I started cleaning up the interior plastics today. They will get 1 more cleaning but looks like none of them will need to be painted.
. This was the one I was most worried about. Before.

Chemical Guys SPI_191_16 Lightning Fast Carpet and Upholstery Stain Extractor. I wasnt real happy with how it worked on the seat but surprised at the plastics.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Playing musical chairs with the weather in pushing the car in and out of the shop between storms but managed to get the shop washed out, walls, roof, floor etc and started putting a light coat of paint on them just to lock anything in. Ran out of paint so waiting on more. Also got the shop floor sealed in today with an epoxy. My shop isnt really suitable to do an all over paint job but going to try it anyway around September.
Also worked some more on the original grill. It was pretty rough to start with but its much better now.
. Outside for the first time since its been in the shop.
. All this was under it.
. Starting to put a light coat of white on the shop walls.
.
. Floor sealed in with epoxy. Trying my best to alleviate as many dust sources as possible.
.
.
. Back in the shop.
. After sanding and sandblasting and then sanding again sprayed a coat of black on it.
. Painting the letters back in silver. Its not perfect but then I'm not an artist, lol. I'm happy with it.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Back out in the sun and resanded everything from the center body line down with 320 as well as the jambs and then back in the shop and pulled the hood off.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
Some of the paint started coming in today. This morning I got the welder out and welded one of the supports back on for the window net.
This afternoon I finally sanded the underside of the roof and sprayed it in gray epoxy so now I can go back and finish painting the top part of the cage.

Set the hatch carpet in it today and trimmed it for the cage bars. I'll clean the carpet after its painted. Also set the rear interior plastics back roughly in place but wont mount them until after paint either as the tail light harness has to go back in plus a new hatch rubber. I also still need to clean the sill plates.

Thanks, it started off slow plus having to track down lots of parts and pieces but its finally picking up a little steam. Funds are and have been tight so just having to do what I can to keep it moving along some.

1 step forward and 2 steps back. Got the spark plugs gapped and installed but the smog check valve broke off so had to pull the manifold back off. In trying to swap out the smog tube one of the nuts rung off in half in the manifold.
Going to run another manifold by the machine shop to have it surfaced before cleaning and spraying it with cast ceramic. Also worked today on plug wire routing.
.
. Gapping the plugs.
. Snapped right off.
. Manifold back off.
. Not all plug wire sets are alike. After 2 sets got one that was the correct length.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
The mount for the dipstick tube where it bolts onto one of the exhaust manifold was broken and missing so I cut the tab off a universal one and welded it onto the original.
. Getting ready to mig weld the 2 pieces together.
Re: Morrison Cook #98 SCCA Escort World Champion 88 Iroc
When I lined up the clutch disc the other day it just didnt feel right with the plastic line up tool so I ordered in a new input shaft and it got here today. As I suspected it would not slide into the pilot bushing so pulled it back down and took a dremel and a diamond burr bit and corrected it.
. Back apart.
. Measuring the new input shaft, the one in the trans and the id on the bushing.
. After opening the bushing part way. I used the grease to see how far I had gone. Went on and modified the bushing so it went in all the way just to be safe.
