84 s/e diamond mesh replacing grill inserts, pics
so i have this 84 firebird s/e v8 i got for 100 bucks last summer and it needs a nose and i replaced a fender. ive been holding out for 90ish ta nose, but i got tired of looking at the cracked grill inserts and cut out some diamond mesh (lafting or whatever its called in the stucco world) and put it in there it looks pretty nice but the pics arent so good at night. im sure this has been done since i saw it on a ta at the junkyard with a squished nose too. wish there was a way to unsquish the corner of the nose

I'd paint the fasteners black.
Maybe it's just the pictures but the zinc finish or whatever it is that's on those fasteners makes them really "pop out" at you. Light colors/objects tend to stand out whereas darker things sink into the background - I think if you painted them it would really smooth it out.

th factory screws are too small by the way i used washer head screws. i havent had time to mess with it, i might just spray the entire thing flat black, havent decided. im going to have to take most of the front end off the car pretty soon anyhow, the inner bumper is squished so even if i had a new nose it still wouldnt look right or line up, also need a new hood. prolly just get a harwood cowl hood when i replace it

My car has them, previous owner did it. Looks ok to me but i am going to change it. Going to make a solid piece to go in its place.

i think it looks good, but it depends on the color of the car. u could just get the full covers that were found on the 84's with the areo package like mine.

I did this to my 79 T/A, but I used perforated stainless sheet metal. It's the ideal choice if you can get your hands on it. The stuff goes for $1200 for a 4'X10' sheet. I got a couple of scrap pieces from the shop I work at.
