Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Well, the other day, my car was so salty that it looked like it was white. So I decided to go through the automatic car wash since it was such a nice day. It has been too cold to wash it myself most days. So I sucked up an had the machine do it

Yeah, its the UMI's.

Eventually I need to try and use some dry ice or something to get all the dents out of the car. The driver door is real bad, and so is the hood.

Not anymore right now. I used to go to school at daniel webster, but I dropped out.

And I cant just buy a beater for the winter. There is no-where to park another car in my driveway. The garage I am in-front of in the pictures is my dad's bay; he was at work. Normally I have to squeeze the firebird in-front of the boat. Also, the town has a winter parking ban at night for public roads.

This is what I had to sell to be able to buy an f-body:

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Well the monte was really alot more comfy to drive around, and it was excellent in the snow. Plus it was so solidly built. It was just stupid slow.

The fireibrd isnt fast, but its 100 times more fun than the monte, and at least twice as fast.

Like I said.

LO3 or not, I love tooling around in my car. I'm guessing yours is even more fun with the T5.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Well, the T5 isnt all its made out to be. Sure, I like shifting my own gears, and I would take it any day over a 700R, but it isnt as "fun" as an import or something. Maybe a tranny mount and tq arm bushing would help, but right now, I gotta be real careful when I shift or I get loud bangs and clunks.

And my LO3 isnt that fast. I lost to an early 90's Acura Integra with the twin-cam honda motor stock. Also lost to a 95 maxima with the crap v6 motor. Both had stock motors with exhaust, and pulled my bu 5-7 cars from a dig - 80mph.

305TBIs were not meant to be raced with and shouldn't be raced with...
Getting embarrassed by soccer mom minivans everywhere!

Car looks good, id spray the sides of the SFCs black...looks kinda funny. I agree, id try all in my power to get that thing off the salty roads. Car looks pretty damn clean though. Other then the ding which i didn't even notice at first glance. Always like that blue was the same on my gf's 89 RS but a lot more common on the birds.

I bought this 1988 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban, new balljoints, shocks, tires, brakes, ujoints. TBI350, TH400 tranny and an NP205 T-case. Has mint interior and one little small rust hole on the body by the back wheel...$1400! Need to find ya something like this for winter and stop abusing your 3rd gen or I will have to call (3rd gen protective services) on your a$$...lol!

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Well, I really would like an old k-10 or something that has 4x4, V8 carbed, and a solid front axle.

However, I would have to rent a storage bay or something to keep the firebird at in the winter. Thats kinda expensive lol.

Here is a pic I took yesterday with the snows on:

It'll be more expensive getting rid of the rust.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

looks great with the Formula rims on, and if you wash it frequently to keep the salt and such off it may not rust out. but man I dont see how you can drive her around, my Trans Am cant even make it up and down my driveway after it snows, good thing I dont have to worry about driving it in the snow until next year.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

About the dry ice, well if you heat the metal a little with a blow dryer, then dry ice it, it is *supposed* to remove the dent. I doubt it will work on my car, but its worth a try.

And about how I drive it in the snow, well when you only have one car, you figure things out. The snow tires and 200lb of sand in the back make it 100% better in the snow.

Also, I need to shovel the whole driveway and lay down ice melt to get out.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Looks great! Drive through didnt do a bad job, theres one hear at a shell station that I use occasionally that does a good job, but id never use one with the mop things flicking around, lol. These pictures also make the SFC's look better, but Id still paint them black or the color of your car. Still dont hang down as low as I originally though and sit back a lil more too.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

IDK about the swirl marks, they are usually pretty good about that. It does have all the "mops" that spin around, but its different than most other cheaper car washes. Oh and this time I got the "3 color foam" i dont know what that does, but it left some residue when the car was being pulled out. Then, when the kids were buffing and drying it out front with the terry towels, all the sudden the finish just Poped and looked beautiful! Those pictures are the best the car has looked since I bought it.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

I used to take my black 87 through the auto wash. I think it may have been brushless though... Either way, Ive been through ones with brushes and i never noticed any swirls or anything. The places around me are "White Glove" and they seem to have a decent building. Looks like parts on the machine are always clean, and from what Ive heard about it, they really go through that place at the end fo the day and clean everything out.

Great looking formy by the way! Dig the color...the stance...everything. Good looking car.

J.

Re: Went to the automatic car wash ... pics!

Well, I dont like the way the front end sits higher than the rear. I would rather have it perfectly level, or even the rear just like .25" higher.

Also, I dont like the lack of GFX. Kinda wish it was a T/A, but then again I guess being a bare car has probably saved it from alot of rust.

just be careful, its VERY hard to find an automatic wash that doesnt leave swirls. all the dirt and crud collects on the brushes, then those brushes touch your car. some places take the time to clean the brushes, but its hard to find places like that

love the car tho

I kinda like no ground effects, I think it gives it an old school muscle look and such a sports car look, But I do see what you are saying, Ive though about getting them a few times.

Also, I would never go through one of the automatic washes with the brushes, Swirl city. I rarely go through one but if I do I go to one of the ones that doesnt touch your car besides the water and chemicals.

I'm a big fan of the "touchless" automatic washes--the kind that just use high pressure water and soap. There's a killer $5 one at a 76 station by my job.

Hey I just noticed your Snow-roc rims match your SFC's!
