Sup,
Would it make a difference if I removed the cowl/fabric/material thats under the hood of the two cars. Bother are torn and sagging in some areas. What would be the benefits and consequences of removing them? Would it be better to replace them with new ones?
Thanks

I don't think it would matter both the 3rd gens I've owned didn't have them
Alright, I'll probably take it out. It gets everything dirty and traps dust on the inside. Thanks for your input.
Knightmare, where in NY are you located?
Just a note of caution.. The purpose of the fabric is to keep your hood from getting to hot and ruining the paint.....

So should I replace them with new ones?

Protecting the paint and sound insulation... that's what it does.
Finding good quality replacements is difficult so if you find a good source, especially one that does the power bulge hood fit, please let me know.

They're there, but any idea what "w/ formula" and "w/o formula" means?

I ripped mine out of both of my cars. Aftermarket hoods don't have them and they are just fine paint-wise.

Not going to try it. There is the question of "W/Formula" and "W/O Formula" and then there is the fit. I ordered 1 from Classic Industries and returned it for replacement 3 times. It turns out they cut the pattern for the hood in the insulation BACKWARDS. It shed fiberglass all over my engine so I sent it back. I did see that they had a molded piece for the Power Bulge that cost around 80 bucks but it cost twice that to ship it.
The order form on this site... no details. Not going to bother.

I've shot them a question about it. Will inform you on what they say.

You da man!
I got an e-mail from them. I asked which I should get from them for an 82 and 83 Trans Am with the underhood assembly. He told me that its part # 14099508 $43.19.
I looked it up and it turns out to be "w/ formula".
He also said it would be $40 shipping to NYC.
Hope that helps.
I will not be buying it at this moment. I'll see what happens running without it. If anything, the cars needs new paint anyways.

Arg.
I do not want to be the guinea pig for this one again. I'll wait until I find the right piece. I really do appreciate the information. Maybe I'll use this stimulus package garbage for this.

Tempting but I am looking at moving from CA to GA soon and then painting the car again. When I do that I'll be more apt to try something like this.
Good find though! Looks like this guy will be around for awhile.

Ripped out the old insulation today. Bit the bullet and bought one for each of my cars from that ebay one. For $34 bucks each, its worth a shot. I'll update you guys on how it turns out and get some pics.
btw, Cadillac, you work for EA? sweeeet
