Build thread: project 84 Trans am
This was my summer driver my Junior year of high school. At the middle of the year the rod let go. I swapped the basic 305 to a 350. At the end of the year I blew the tranny. That’s where it sits now, collecting Michigan rust in the driveway. This year I plan on having a nice looking, daily driver with performance. So far, I have collected another firebird for parts that I'm currently driving, an extra hood, a good quarter panel, and almost complete interior. I will be selling parts once I'm done or parts I don't plan to use. PM me for parts you want or need.
To start off the Trans am is very solid for a Michigan car. It would have been rust free, however, the previous owner hit a mailbox and went in the ditch, I assume, since the passenger side off the car is ugly and full of bondo. The quarter has a rip along the seam on the bottom and is now rusting and there is a soft spot on the driver’s floor.

Currently, I am in need of a door, manual window with grey door pad, since I am changing from Dove skin to grey. I am currently waiting for a fender from a guy on craigslist. I also need two 16 inch iroc-z wheels, one front and one rear. I will have pictures posted soon.

I am now working on stripping the interior, and then replacing the quarter. As soon as it gets a little warmer and it won't kill me "gravel-backing" the tranny is coming out. If I could find a T-56 for relatively cheap or trade I would be putting that in, but for now I'm sticking with rebuilding the 700r4.
Currently Car is at the shop getting the trans rebuilt, and being put in. My mechanic is only charging $100 to pull it and put it back in. Plus the cost of rebuillding.

Parts car, 89 firebird, I'm using it as a driver now. I will also be using most of the interior trim, If there is any parts anyone may want when I'm done please PM me. I have two almost complete interior trim pieces laying in the barn also. One set is painted silver metallic and looks like hell, but the other is black with black carpet. I do not plan to use it.

Good quarter panel, has some surface rust, but its a lot straighter than either cars. I can't wait till the car comes back from the tranny shop, to start body work and paint.

Formula hood, rough. does anybody want this? I need doors, or door skins. I also have cash for complete manual doors.

Currently waiting for parts from Summit, and then the car back.

Its a v8, I bought it for parts, turns out it runs and drives, I want the interior trim out of it. I guess I could put an interior back in it and sell it, but the drivers floor is completely gone.

Decided I'm going with Gun metal grey, I was doing some searching on here, and the gun metal grey is more appealing to me.

Update: Bought a torque converter and TCI lockup kit. Summit is amazing, received the shipment in two days. I'm still waiting to get the car back, this nice Michigan weather has me anxious to start working on the quarter panel.
I'm still looking for a passenger side door, does anybody have one they might be willing to part with?

Update: still waiting on the car, but I did something productive today, and cleaned the garage out. Its barely big enough to fit the car in, but hey, at least it has a cement floor.
Between that and helping my Dad work on his project Corvette, by the way, does anyone have a L98 that they would be willing to sell in Michigan?

Well, I'm still waiting on the car, but after a 300 mile road trip I have "new" wheels and tires! What do you guys think? Good Craigslist buy?
Bad news: Parts car is out of commission. Fuel pump died or is dying, while I was driving. Now sounds like an eight cylinder running on five and knocking on three. Uh-oh.

Little late on the update, got the car back it runs and shifts great! I don't like the vacum control for the converter though. It locks up immediately after shifting into 4th. Is there an easy way to fix that? Also, today I burnt a fusable link for the second time, this time because it was up against the header. Boy, I hats replacing them! Is there a say to eliminate them or make them easier to replace? I also would like some feedback, what heads should i go with? I want some big power numbers but still streetable. Yesterday I went up against an RX8 from 85 till I topped out and he stayed next to me the whole time.

Re: Build thread: project 84 Trans am
Had a pretty good day, got the interior out of the parts car and put into the project, here's a picture out in the yard. Then interior picture of each car, with most interior torn out. Then I drove 200 miles round trip for a good used fender.
Has anyone put an amplifier in the rear storage compartment like the last picture? Or is it a bad idea? Also, I'm going to be parting out the car, or selling it mostly complete, interior trim is out, but have all parts for it. It does run drive and stop, has a slight tick, not quite a knock. Asking best offer or trade?

Re: Build thread: project 84 Trans am
Well guys, I went on a 600 mile roadtrip to cleveland and came back with a burnt motor.
I think she toasted a ring or broke one. Its got a lot of blow by. It eats about a quart and a half every 50 miles.
The whole way there and back it didn't use any oil but after I got back and parked it is when she started smoking out the pcv and in the air cleaner. It doesn't knock or make any bad noises and still runs decent though. I'm not to happy to have to pull the motor and rebuild it. I don't have the time or the funds.
Does anyone have any motor for sale? Ls or any other? If I'm going to have to pull it I might as well make more power while I'm at it.
