Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

First things first it needs a power plant i have a 350 that came out of 91 z28 but it was mearly a 1gen sbc truck engine but beats useing the 305 that came out of it, also who ever had this car should'nt be able to hold a spray can...

the engine bay
IMG_20130702_194342_zps06d1f76f.jpg?t=1373080688
after some engine degreaser and a good powerwashing it was ready too paint and this was the outcome bad picture sorry
IMG_20130702_210126_zps921e7306.jpg?t=1373082263
so now the engine bay is pretty now for this nasty 350
IMG_20130704_094352_zps40a647e7.jpg?t=1373080600
getting loaded up to go to the grage
IMG_20130704_114415_zpsd0155a89.jpg?t=1373080551
so now shes in the grage got her apart the 350 was missing the timing chain cover so had to use the one of the 305 noticed someone put a double timing chain on it so pulled the pan too while i was there.
IMG_20130704_152346_zps890d011e.jpg?t=1373080512
holy cow was this thing nasty it probly leaked out of everywere considering every gaskit seems too be made of rtv. So after installing my timing chain cover and oil pan gave her a good cleaning and painted a nice red i wasnt too worried about overspray on the intake or vavle covers cause i plan on replaceing that stuff anyway.

So im hopeing too put the engine back in this weekend. O also if anyone has the 82-84 front grill insert ( the grill or the 84 trans am insert will work) let me know i need one lol

Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

well today i got the engine and tranny setting in the car kinda need engine mount bolts and and tranny crossbar bolts but some pics

IMG_20130706_125926_zps37a8ef43.jpg?t=1373140158
learned the hard way with the front bumper on i would not have enough room too get the engine into its new home
IMG_20130706_135346_zps556d041e.jpg?t=1373140209
So after some thinking and measureing i just took the pas side wheel off and slide the engine hoist with the pair over the pas side of the car giving me the extra foot i needed and WAABAM i got her in
IMG_20130706_140426_zpsd30abd48.jpg?t=1373140182

Into her new home for a lil while until i can build a engine ill like
much more work too do in time

Put some rustoleum automotive primer on it , it will keep it from rusting.

Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

Today i made some firewall blockoff plates too cover the heater box holes
IMG_20130716_153545_zpsd2998114.jpg?t=1374015664
made this one tuck in to cover the heatercore holes and a few others need to paint it still but ran out of paint
IMG_20130716_153602_zps573a7bd4.jpg?t=1374015537
Then 1986 iroc z28 had a cool idea too fill those holes in my bumper
IMG_20130716_191316_zpsa461f8f0.jpg?t=1374025360

IMG_20130716_191310_zps329c5842.jpg?t=1374025408

Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

Well i was crawling under my car for a little bit and found my front oilpan seal was leaking it seemed the lip was bent so it wasnt getting a good seal i used a screwdriver to bend it back then used rtv for reinsurance
IMG_20130717_164904_zpsf3df991f.jpg?t=1374188419
then under further notice i noticed i had a bent lower control arm on the driver side
IMG_20130717_163704_zps66a139cf.jpg?t=1374188505
IMG_20130717_163712_zpsc4980116.jpg?t=1374188466
so woohoo another thing that needs replaced i dont think its too bad it will ride for now
then a powersteering link decided too make its self a issue got a new line which was a pain too fit
then i forgot too take a picture but my front swaybarlinks were SHOT! lol the bushings were MIA lol but i upgraded to the 36mm swaybar
IMG_20130718_160809_zpse2040d57.jpg?t=1374188333
The 34 bellow the 36 ready for install

IMG_20130718_165632_zps82c5d403.jpg?t=1374188294
New swaybar links with the 36mm swaybar much better ordered some new bushings mine were not the greatest
but my other q-jet took a crap damn quadrajunks so my cars down..

Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

how about putting a foglight or dirving light in the bumper and covering the holes with lexan, you can paint out the part that is not over the light.

Re: trying too get this 84 trans am rolling again

Well under closer look of my heads on my 3970010 350 i noticed i had 305 378450 heads
from what ive read there 1.72 and the exahust are 1.50 60cc heads
With the help of some tg.org members was told the heads are garbage and are not worth the time of day.
So found a 350 vortec in a junkyard today with 139000 on it and im gunna snag the heads for 50 bucks
IMG_20130723_171155_zpsdd1c5107.jpg?t=1374619667
Proof they are the 906 heads
IMG_20130723_171200_zps0e70359a.jpg?t=1374619627
So im hopping to have these heads off tmw
Um if anyone has any recomendations of what cam, intake (vortec), and carb (cfm) too use plz post would help me figure out what ill need too get

Edelbrock performer or air gap can find cheap on craigslist. Most have bolt holes for conventional or vortec heads.
