TTA 1119
as discussed, i brought TTA 1119 home today. i took advantage of a few days of dry, albeit extremely cold weather, and went down and picked her up, as i didnt want the car to be driven in the rain. the car made the hundred or so mile drive with no issues.
once the weather gets a little warmer i'm going to tune her up (fluids) and clean her up. once i do that, i'll post up some more pics. below are just a few pics of the moving stuff around and the TTA in the garage with my other rides.
[Moving some stuff around.]

[she's nice and she hasnt been cleaned up. so she should clean up really nice.]

Re: TTA 1119
this is a post I just made at TTA.com. I figured that this opportunity belonged here as well - even though there are a bunch of cheap-skates over here.
P.S. the sag in the carpeted section of the door trim has fixed itself somehow. the sag is no longer there, and I don't know why.
someone PM'ed me about selling the car "as
is", before spending any time or money on it, and I responded that, yes, it
made sense to sell it now before I spend money and time on it, whereby its
going to start being more and more 'my car.' so, I also figured that if
i'm going to make this offer privately, I might as well make it here for anyone
interested. he asked for a number, and I put out a very reasonable (TTA.com
& TGO.org only) figure of 17.5k. that is not going to be the eBay figure
if it ever comes to that. and, the price will go up commensurate to the $$$
that goes into it from here.
as I said before, in the very near future
(as soon as I have time, and it isn't wet outside, I will be looking to address
the following issues, as they are the only things that don't quite match the
otherwise near-perfect condition of the car:
Quote:
flushing and replacing of all fluids.
if I see substantial interest
here, I will create a thread in the For Sale section with lots of pictures. I
can also produce pictures of just about anything on the car that anyone needs
to see. I will conceal or misrepresent nothing.

Re: TTA 1119
didnt get nearly as much done today as i wanted to. started an oil change, done except for adding the oil. see a few other little jobs. i want to media blast the housing/cover deal that goes over the turbo charger. also see a need to media blast and repaint at least the bottom-inner air cleaner housing. its rusty in there - i think that air cleaner's been in there for a long time. i ordered a K&N filter from Summit. probably Monday-ish, going to order a Hawk's wing.

so, this isn't normal right? looks like somebody overtightened a drain plug or two to the extreme. i was not impressed with the drain plug that was on the car. i replaced it. we'll see if this one leaks or not. hopefully there wont be a need to replace the oil pan.

this is the new drain plug. the gasket is actually tightened down more on one side because of the depression around the drain hole - so thats not an illusion. i am going to fill it with some 5/30 conventional oil. the PO was running some super-thin full synthetic. with only 500 miles on the engine, i figured it would be better to break the engine in with some conventional oil, then switch to synthetic.

there's some kind of sensor located directly underneath the oil filter (resembles an O2 sensor). whatever it is, i felt it was best not to have it bathed in motor oil, hense the plastic bag.

the down pipe situation. there is a tiny bit of clearance from the frame. seems like less clearance from the exhaust, especially the collector flange. i'm wondering if that could be where it is making contact. i bought one new rubber motor mount today - they had to order the second one - arrives tomorrow.

had to close the shop doors. it started off nice today, but got cold as **** right about when this pic was taken.

Re: TTA 1119
back at it today. trying a different drain plug gasket. will assess overnight leakage tomorrow. changed the fuel filter. media blasted the turbo heat shield - i didnt realize it was galvanized, so media blasting didnt exactly have the desired effect and i'm going to have to have it redone - that, or powdercoat or high temp paint, but i'm not sure what temperature those heat shields get up to. i also had media blasted and repainted the air canister and put a K&N filter in it. the hood insulation arrived today from Classic Industries. Aero Wing is supposed arrive Wednesday-ish. did some engine compartment cleaning.
picked my kid up from school in it, then drove thru the car wash to [wash it] and assess the T-Tops and windows for leaks. two or three drops per side. i actually have a complete, still in the boxes weather stripping kit that i bought years ago for an 89 Formula 350 w/ T-Tops project. but since the TTA didnt leak hardly, i dont know if new weather stripping would even make a difference. i also have new window motors that i bought for that Formula.
car ran absolutely fantastic. i still havnt addressed that false knock issue when you get on the gas though.
took a few pics with my phone.

Re: TTA 1119
You may be right. If given the option at the dealership, i would have opted to not have them put on. I think a lot of dealerships put them on for increased WOW factor on the lot.
It doesn't really look bad. I just like to keep things stealthy and not advertise what i have. Worst thing ever are hood scoop or other badges that broadcast horse power ratings. I think the original Pace Car stickers are in the owner's kit in my case.
But again, they aren't bad looking, and i may very well end up keeping them on.

Re: TTA 1119
drain plug still leaks. less than before, but still unacceptable. i bought a big roll of some very thick, cork gasket making material. next chance i get, i am going to make a gasket and see how that works. i really dont want to pull off that oil pan - especially without a lift.
i changed the oil on my Formula 350 today, and my pick up last week. so i had alot of shop towels that i needed to wash. i also use discarded white t-shirts as lint-free shop rags. i'm probably deranged, but completely by coincidence, i stumbled upon a cool apparell idea.

Wash shop towels? I use a different system.
1) Wife saves all cotton items that aren't fit for civilian use and stacks them in the garage.
2) First I use them for car cleaning duty.
3) When dirty, they go on the workbench for utility shop use.
4) Once they're too slippery to hold, they get demoted to oil change duty.
5) After that, I still hang on to them to deal with really bad spills because I'm too cheap to purchase oil dry.
6) Reluctantly I finally throw them out.
Sorry to take your thread off track, but it's late and I'm bored.
Love that TTA. I can understand why you don't like the look of the pace car stickers, but I would also keep them on. It's not like your a kid trying to say "look how special this car is", they are a legit part of the history of the TTA. If you bought it new and used it as a daily driver, you would probably want to go without.

on the whole, the condition of the interior and carpet was already very good - just had a few spots and stains here and their, but little or no wear. the results from steam-vacking the carpet were very good.

there are no stains or spots here. anything that looks stained or whatever is just shadows in this pic.

...and the floormats are like new too. i guess i forgot to take a pic of those.

My barn has a spot in the concrete set up for it right now... When I had them pour the concrete with re-rod, I made sure there was an area with 6" instead of the 4 like the rest of the barn...

It's an Atlas Garage Pro 8000. I have a ton of pictures of it being delivered, installing it, and modifying my garage so vehicles could be lifted to a workable height. I won't flood your thread with pictures, but here's the links in case you want to browse around.
It's mobile too. Just throw on the huge castors and wheel it around. Great for working outside when it's nice.

Re: TTA 1119
I considered a lift like that for raising and lowering a car via the wheels... but then I realized that mostly when I am working under on my car, or I needed to remove the wheels... IE If I am doing a brake job, or rotating tires, a lift that raised the car via the wheels would have less value than one that raised it via the body or frame.
With the wide tracks, how well does it work for working under the car? Do the driving rails get in the way?

Re: TTA 1119
I contemplated 2-post VS 4-post for a long time. I ended up going 4-post. Yes the ramps can be intrusive when doing suspension work, but it's really no big deal at all. I've never had an issue working under the car either. Gotta watch your head so don't smack it on the lift. Ask me how I know...
The downsides to a 4-post are more than made up for with it's ability to be moved. The lift doesn't need to be anchored, and can be moved anywhere. They also have metal trays that let you back the car up while it's in the air so you can so tire/suspension work. A special jack is available, or just use your floor jack/bottle jack.

I'm interested in replacing the stock muffler with a Walker Dynomax muffler. Can somebody help me out with a PN?
Also, i've noticed that the GM muffler thats on the car is connected to the intermediate pipe via clamp, but the two tail pipes are welded on. Is that the normal "stock" conciguration?

As for welded tail pipes...I'll have to take a peak and see what mine look like.

Re: TTA 1119
I ordered a muffler yesterday. **** was expensive, so i'm pretty sure its the right one. the part number is 17266 (Walker/Dynomax.) Summit doesn't carry it; Jegs carries it, but it is a special order with an estimated ship date of April 29th if I ordered it yesterday - and its 173.99...just for the muffler. My local Autozone can get it for 193.xx, but it will be here tomorrow. so, I went with Autozone. 200 bucks for a muffler. FWIW, several manufacturers make mufflers that would fit and allow you to use your factory pipes, but the thing is that the Dynomax is the one that sounds good with a Turbo 6.
