PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

purchased february 2017
1986 trans am ,lg4 305 ,t5 manual ,disk brake rear ,posi with 2.73 gears, very low option car(air/tilt only) even came with single speaker am radio ,crank windows,no trunk release

this is what it looked like when i picked it up:

a little rough around the edges but clean and rust free

kind of nasty, lots of parts missing or changed but runs fine

had to clean up that underhood nastiness a little bit

made up a set of beauty rings for the gauges, cnc lathes are handy

scored a performer rpm and a b/n holley for $350

the 10 bolt did what they do,spectacularly imploded .....out with the old......but luckily i found a GTA cheap that was rotten and parted it out.kept all the goodies, sold stuff i didnt need and ended up with a complete L98 engine,trans,interior,spoiler,lights,9 bolt 3.27 disc brake rear, aluminum driveshaft etc all free. i love good deals!!!

in with the newly refreshed 9 bolt, along with a new umi torque arm,umi sfc's,umi adjustable panhard etc etc....

i hated the low rise pedistal spoiler and always loved the look of the 69 trans am so i thought to re create some of that image with an rs bookshelf spoiler that fell in my lap.

i also painted the hood and found a set of BMW style 65's,i kind of liked this look(still have the rims kicking around)

i thought i would try out the newly acquired cross lace rims i got free from my GTA part out adventures....they look sweet

this was the gta that gave its life to continue on in my car.looks good from afar but sadly it had soft strut towers, floor, inside the doors and the entire wiring was butchered......gone to a better place

took all the old burgundy stripe off that was about 60% there....looking clean

found a set of BBS LM reps cheap, had to have them

started building a vortec 350 on the side, still in the works and i have an L98 350 and an LB9 305 as well.i like having choices

my L98,under the workbench now

classic cross lace look,my favorite i think!!

painted the lms,got tires

didnt like the silver ,tried grey

looks alright but i wasnt happy

now we are talking,i really love white and gold myself

i repainted the door moldings from the gta and installed the gta emblems and the like new gta window sweeps and aluminum driveshaft.i know its a trans am and has the fender vents . i like it and am fully aware it isnt a gta.

i hand painted these gold stripes.im at odds with them and will probably go back to all white again.it was more or less an experiment from a vision i had.

installed the near mint gta grey seats, yes thats a camaro console with a cup holder i added.ive also got a couple firebird consoles but they are separating and it angers me.

did a little more underhood cleanup

stripe is kind of growing on me,it definitely is different and the twin stripes just look wrong on the third gens.the heritage stripe package is the only twin stripe that looks halfway decent imo

i was looking at a cam i bought years ago sitting under my bed and decided to install it (l-82 corvette spec cam),a set of vortec heads i reconditioned with LS6 springs, new seals, retainers and a valve job,a vortec specific edlebrock rpm intake and a holley 650 ultra.....

and the saga continues

I'm liking the gold stripes with gold wheels. Looks good on a white car!

Tall spoiler is excellent choice. Visually balances the cowl hood.

Looks great! I like the stripes and wheel combo. I don’t see too many birds use the high rise spoiler but it looks good as well. Also, never saw interior until now which looks good! Like the center console mod!

Re: PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

thanks,it does catch the eye.im just unsure if the grey interior clashes with the gold enough to make me want to change it.i thought of doing the same thing but with charcoal grey rims/stripe or even the tyrol blue from the 1969 trans am.i even tossed around the idea of "emulating" the 69 firebird two slot tail lights and the blued out area (look at the rear of a 1969 trans am) with a spare set of "ok" tail light lenses and some creative magic.just a silly thought

Thats so not a **** hawk!
You did two things I always wanted to do on my white TA- the low rise cowl and the rear high rise spoiler. It looks excellent.

Should you decide to change the front seats, please shoot me a PM when you're ready to sell them!

Re: PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

thanks for your complement,i think if i didnt have the cowl hood when i bought the car i would have a stock hood.sadly,i had 2 stock hoods afterwards but got rid of them(mad....)my problem is i buy stuff but rarely sell anything unless the wife relentlessly starts bitching or i need money for something else and have no budget for it.

im kind of my own worst enemy, my saving grace is i live in a smallish townhouse with a single garage so i cant hoard to the level i would if i had spare room in several places ive got 12 guitars in my living room and three amps too, gotta have hobbies right?

i had 4 sets of seats at one point, dark grey, dark and light grey, all black and light grey.wife whined and whined so i got rid of most of them....(now i only have one spare pair of black camaro buckets, one black rear seat with bottoms) ive got 3 spare consoles, half a dozen serpentine setups (or at least 3 lol)
i had 4 sets of rims...cross lace 16" ,high tech turbo 16" ,bbs lm 18" and bmw style 65 18" but her persistent whining made me get rid of one set....and now i regret it
i have 3 spare engines,2 350's and a 305....half a dozen intakes,carbs,interior stuff,spoilers etc etc,car audio.....im a pack rat because i never know when ill have money

Re: PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

Sounds like you got some goodies. I've recently sold a 350 and 400SBC but they were old school kinda wish I'd kept the 400 though. Im always buying up third Gen parts too can't help myself. Posi-units, exhaust pieces, cams, etc.. Wife fusses a lil bit but realizes I've had worse habits before Lol.

Re: PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

i can agree with you on almost all of your points,no more "illicit" activities for me,no more dreams of being a rock star ,(well theres still dreams but i don't pursue them)
i don't drink really (3-4 drinks in the last 10 years) and im getting too old for extreme debauchery(lol) well the last one,im not dead yet.....
i would like an LS at some point but its so invasive and a deep learning curve.i think i would be happy with a 350 horse small block,at 56 im not really needing
1000+ horsepower and cant use it anyway .i still want it though.lolol

We have the same problem. I have 13 guitars myself.
Spoiler looks good. I like it better than the wrap-around style. I also like the type I have ('82-'84)...

this is the one that was on it when i bought it.i didn't really like it and swapped out to the high rise

i also have the spoiler from this car(and the engine, trans, rims, interior etc) that is mint,i may put it on eventually.it isn't the stock wrap around ,its super light and weighs 2-3 pounds

Your car looks good, it's coming along nicely, and has received the love these cars deserve. Looking forward to seeing what's next for it.

I couldn't believe the weight difference in my aftermarket wrap around spoiler.

Re: PROJECT "S H I T H A W K"

i can literally pick the new wrap around spoiler up with two fingers.ive never actually owned a real ,old style wrap around spoiler but have heard they are heavy and self destruct from the inside out.is there clips you can buy that go on the hatch for the spoiler wings? my hatch doesn't have the brackets for the wrap around like the gta hatch had.
