It’s been 20 years since I’ve had a road worthy thirdgen but this one will be worth it. This car stored away in a garage the next street over for 5 years and I never knew. Previous owner owned it for 20 years. He parked it, got it ready for paint and….. let it sit for 5 years lol.
it’s an 88 gta. Has the tpi and 5 spd combo. Has a few spots of rust popping through the primer and hasn’t been run in years. Came with a set of chrome 99 TA rims for $1500!! I bought a car port to work on it in next to my shop but am on a time crunch to atleast slap on a quick coat of paint so it doesn’t rust away over the winter while I work on it.
I changed to the oil, spark plugs, drained as much gas as I could, change the fuel filter, and she cranked right up!!! Kinda Smokey and a little rough but atleast she runs.
initially the body looked fairly good but there’s a fair amount of hidden rust under the primer and a few dings/dents and a few waves in the paint.
Been doing lots of blocking. Lots and lots of blocking.
I don’t have a spray booth. I manage a quick lube so the plan is to pull it in and spray it in a bay and pray for no contaminates. I’m spraying high tecks gloss white single stage urethane.
It come out decent considering. I’m doing this whole build on a super tight budget. Looks good from 10 feet away, maybe 5 after a wetsand and buff, but if you look close there’s small fish eyes in the paint. I got a cheap water filter/dryer of Amazon which wasn’t up to the task of cleaning our nasty airlines. Oh well
Welp, while she was resting out of the snow, someone bashed in my fender and f’d up my trunk lid. Found a new trunk but on the lookout for a good fender which I didn’t realize was going to be this difficult. It never ends.
