Could someone bring tools to the picnic???

I'm having a couple of problems with my T/A that I need worked out and was wondering if you guys could help me out at the meet this weekend.

1. I installed the open air cleaner on my tbi awhile back and all was running good, but now I have this smoking coming out the passenger side (along the quarter panel side) of the hood. Its not a major smoking, but you can notice it slightly at stops/parking, but not every time. I think I can reproduce it in park and revving for a few minutes.

2. I also have this weird rubber burning smell (I think it is but could be mistaken) all of the time, except when driving, or when you turn on the air conditioning you can smell it for a long while before it is circulated out.

3. Other than that I would like to have my timing checked, and adjusted if necessary but I don't have a timing light and don't know how to use one anyway but I will want to learn. So if anyone who is going this weekend could remember to bring theirs that would be great.

I'll bring my socket set and crescent wrenches with me as well in hopes of an easy fix to this smoking and bad smell problem.

Thanks guys!

Sweet, I will bring some tools and stuff too. I will bring my timing light, but it's not very bright anymore?

I'll also bring my fuel pressure gauge and stuff like that, if any one needs it....

hmm , fuel pressure gauge, I might be able to use that, would it show if I'm running lean or not? as in showing my carb is too small?

Not really (esp for a carb car), but I will also bring my DVM so we can tap your o2 to figure out the above mentioned.

Nope, do NOT hook that up to anything, and make SURE it is not grounded. If you ground it, it's toast.

i know you problem with the Smoke thing

when i did the open Air Element mod to my car i had the same problem

the breather groment on your car is broke or the breather is not push into the hole as far as it should be

the smoke is the oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold and burning off

Thanks to everyone who has offered to supply tools!

Dennis91Rs, I'll check that since I took the breather and rotated it away from the air cleaner, maybe I pulled it out some.

Thinking about it now, it could also be my multiple oil leaks, mainly the passenger side valve cover leak i have and maybe its dripping onto the exhaust manifold. Since the oil leak is not significant (I'm not losing oil, according to the dipstick) that would explain why sometimes it smokes and sometimes it doesn't.

Does that require any special software (for a v-6)? I have a smog retest in October and would like to see how far I'm off

Laptop and scan software for SD cars.
DVM, Fuel Pressure gauge with hose I'm leaving the rest of the tools at home, unless someone wants to do an engine swap or something

One off-the-wall question... will the park guys get mad if we start working on the cars? They seem like they've been cool so far... just wondering if "vehicle work in a state park" is against state regulation or something.

I wouldn't think so, unless you start changing fluids like oil or something.

Good point, I think as long as we do not turn the park into a garage, we should be okay. Just little stuffs like laptop monitoring and stuff I would think would be okie. So long as we are not revving engines and making a commotion or something anyways.
