Why are they popping your hood??? Never had them pop the hood on anything I drove through.
Took my LOUD beater 85Z through the RT29 inspection station (near new MVA). Failed the 1st time, no hood pop, just rolled out. Did some tuning, injector cleaning & Italian tune-up and passed emissions next time through (inspector had a bit of fun keeping it on the rollers when it shifted
). No hood pop involved.

Yeah, many people also tell me I'm a handsome devil
WT... do some folks know. Most of it third or fourth hand or from 'some' source. My experience say's that they don't pop the hood even if you fail. The only reason they would pop your hood is if you fail, do necessary repairs & then apply for a waiver.
Sounds like you need to go for inspection no matter what. If it fails, you'll still get a extension period to scrounge up the parts you need. Since the air injection system is there further reduce HC emissions, a clean running, well tuned motor with a working cat may still pass.
What type of motor do you have and what else have you done to it besides losing the air injection?
