Front License Plate

Anyone from MD ever have a problem running without a front license plate? The car I got never had a front tag on it and I'd really hate to put holes in it. Please let me know before I go and get myself in some unneccessary trouble.

Re: Front License Plate

You'll either get away with, or you won't, but I know it used to be a 1 point moving violation (not sure if it still is)...Not worth the potential hassles if you ask me.

Re: Front License Plate

I got pulled over for NOT having one so I would put it on that way its not something else they can get you for. I grinded a little off the bottom of mine so it wouldnt scratch the paint.

Re: Front License Plate

its not worth any points as far as i know, i have had one citation worth 50 and 70 bucks on each car over the years. insurance hasnt said anything or my rates go up because on them. its just a fine.

anyway i bent the tags so u just see the letters top and bottom and then bolted them on the airdam. havent had any problems going by cops on either car since. usually u need to bring attention to urself when u dont have a front tag for them to get u for it.

Re: Front License Plate

When I first got my Camaro, I had the plate in the windshield. Wasn't long (2 or 3 weeks) before I got harassed by the cops about it. So I bit the bullet and got the plate mount, and installed it.

I have friends that have gone 5 years with no plate and never had any issues. I guess it all depends on the officer and how he is feeling at that moment.

Re: Front License Plate

hey I think my 4th gen ws6 looks good

my thirdgen looks good also however needs paint sometime soon.

o and mods really are not that much for 4th gens also. but the initial cost of a 4th gen does cost at least double that a 3rd gen.

Re: Front License Plate

ive been pulled over once. told me he pulled me over cause i had no front plate...then i pointed to it in the windshield on the dash, and since he felt like an idiot he just left me alone. ive been running like that for 2 years with no problem. as long as the plate is displayed on the front of the vehicle youre fine, just remember to tell that to the cop. i drive daily with historic plates and the front one half covered by the dash pad. they can get you for it, but they wont unless theyre adding it on when they pull you over for something else. they wont waste their time just for a front plate, you gotta **** em off first and then theyll add it.

Check out that link. I had the same problem, and i dont wanna drill holes into the nose.

You WILL get pulled over. You dont have to be doing anything. I had my car on the road for all of about 1.5 weeks, before i got pulled over. I drive to and from work in rush hour, from just east of downtown, to the downtown core. No speeding, always signaling, no aggressive driving, and my car is very quiet.

Guess who got pulled over. (i do pass by the Ottawa Police HQ everymorning) but that shouldnt matter if im following all other rules. He gave me 72 hours to fix it, or i would be fined $110. Pointing to the windshield at my front plate didnt seem to phase him. He admitted he didnt see it, and stopped asking questions like, is the car stolen, but he didnt let me just drive off either.

Windshield is not sufficient, it has to be displayed in the frontal most part of the vehicle, in most places that need front plates.

I did it the same way as trigger, except i have it to one side, and angled, so its slightly aero-dynamic.

I plan to paint the formula in the next year or so and the front holes in bumper will be filled in.

Re: Front License Plate

My buddy got popped in Ocean City like 3 years ago in his '88 Formula, the cop leaned his bike on his car and then wrote him a ticket for not having a front tag, dude was a total punk... he got popped a day later for breaking traction at a stoplight and that cop tried to give him crap for not having a tag so he waved the ticket in his face, it was pretty funny once you got past the 4 or 5 points

Re: Front License Plate

I couldn't stand looking at it on the front of the Trans Am any more, so I moved it. So far so good here anyways. I sat in another car directly in front of it and saw it plain as day, so I hope it will keep working. ( It has been centered since this picture was taken... )

Although the previous owner in Idaho didn't get away with it there... so like others have said, it depends on the cops in your area
