Re: My New Camaro!
I'm about a mile from Springfield Mall. I think I'm going to have this be my work zone for Josie. It's got a lot to fix and I'm going to start small. The switch for the light in the hatch was broken so I took the panel off and spliced some wires for a new switch. Here is the light in the trunk fix:

If I get some time I think I'll take care of some of this tomorrow:

Re: My New Camaro!
So the horn did something funny the other day. It fell off... I went to go shut the door and when It slammed shut the horn came on and didn't turn off. I had to jump in and basically rip the thing off. So now I needed to fix it. Heres how I did it. I noticed thats a common problem so heres a "write up" even though it's really easy.
This is where the rivetts went that broke:

Here is the metal piece that the rivets go threw:

Together:

Drill out the old rivetts, scratch up the surface with sandpaper so the epoxy can hold to something. Apply plastic Epoxy:

Set it near some heat to have it cure faster:

Make sure it's totally cured and put it on the car.

Re: My New Camaro!
Ok so I have a theory as to why my car smokes so bad. See it HERE. I believe that my piston rings are worn out. I also have a theory as to why it stops smoking when I drive the car for 5 minutes. I think that everything heats up and the rings expand to give better compression. Make sense? I got the car registered and titled today so I can drive it now =).I also got this in the mail
I plan on painting the louvers flat black and then mounting it somewhere in the car so It can be seen from the outside. Passing emissions is next. Wish me luck...

it could be your valve seals to. My dad had a 85 vette and it did the same thing, we replaced the seals and it was fine.

welcome man nice project, you could rig up your hatch that the light comes on when the hatch is open, its pretty simple. What are your plans for this car?

3. Carputer - which will most likely be what I do of the 3.

Me too in fact I started out with that exact car! That was the most reliable car I ever owned and loved it very much it was hard to let it go. You can see in the pic the same 94 insp sticker

Re: My New Camaro!
I was the third owner of the IROC, and I bought it from a guy in Upper Marlboro, MD. The car was stolen from the first owner back in 91 when the vin and rpo codes were removed and then recovered and given a serial number stamped on the driver side door jamb. The odometer stopped working last December while I was driving to Richmond, it was at 191k it sure doesn't feel like that many though I've been in a couple of cars with that high of mileage and that car felt a whooooole lot more solid. As far as I know it was never in a wreck. I don't know what happened to the front probably the paint was peeling off and the other guy tried patching it up or something.
I would have kept it but I couldn't pass up on the one I have now and I didn't want to start modding it since it was all original.
I saw in one post you did about it smoking so much I would rebuild the heads and while you have them off put a mic on the piston walls and check for warpage, if it looks good then the heads should solve the smoking problem.
I can't believe you took the tint off! that gave it a lot of attitude, you know after next month you can get registered as a classic and won't have to worry about inspections and stuff.
Also The car spent most of its life in Florida. That is why the floorpans are virtually rust free.

Re: My New Camaro!
I will see what I'm going to do about the heads. I just might pull the whole engine which would suck... I had to remove the tint because it is illegal in VA to spray paint your windows. <- just a joke but the cops here will pull you over for just about anything. I thought they changed the law to 25 years of age for classic. However at a time you were correct about 20 years. good idea though!
As far as the miles go, thats some bad news... When i bought the car the guy told me to the best of his knowledge it had under 100k on it. In reality it probably has more then 200K... I think I may have been ripped off at this point...
From bad to worse - my car got emissionized today. They put me on a treadmill like a little hamster =( Results:
15MPH
Type Score/tolerance
HC 125/48
CO% 0.48/0.19
NO 1961/632 - Thats more then 3x whats allowed...
25MPH
Type Score/Tolerance
HC 134/88
CO .45/.28
NO 1745/614
Bad stuff guys.. I need some help at this point. I am in a little over my head. I have a high flow cat that I need to put on, but I don't have a welder. I also need some professional (or just even well educated) advise on what to do. I have some valve stem seals but I'm guessing that there is more to this than just that... I may be hitting stevo up for that engine.. Any and all help is greatly appreciated..
P.S. Mcgarnicle: Thank you so much for your input. I owe you man. Thank you for taking your time to help me with my journey. I would still be completely in the dark about the miles if not for you! One day I'll take you for a ride in the freshly painted, well running, custom interiorized, 5.7 350 iroc-z28 t-top Camaro you once owned!

Re: My New Camaro!
That sounds good, but I'm moving to Germany in 3 weeks, I might be back in this part of the country someday. If I had the time you could bring it up here to my craft shop that has lifts and aall the tools you would need. Like I said though after the 1st of January you can get it classified as a classic and won't have to worry about emissions. I was lucky when I had it being in the military I had it registered in Texas and didn't have to get it inspected. Good luck with everything, Kenny.

Update 12/10/07:
Fixed my heating system! The full thread can be found here.
It sure is nice seeing as it is starting to get really cold.
I ordered a seat heater for the drivers seat as test run and If I like how it works I'll order 3 more, 1 more for the camaro, and the other 2 go in the Honda s2000 (trisha).

Re: My New Camaro!
So I was having a little bit of a problem passing emissions. In fact my scores were 3 times what they should be!
Long story short:
I either need a waiver (means that the state sees that I spent money to fix the car then they will over look the polution) or I need it to actually pass emissions. I took the car into Amerigo and they diagnosed the problem for $75. He said I needed a new EGR valve, o2 sensor, and possibly a cat. I told him to go to work. He calls me up to tell me that the cat has been gutted (I'm not surprised). I said I'd get a new cat for him to put on. He installs everything and calls me today. The car passes emissions!!! WOOHOOO all the kings men rejoice. I now have her home and will continue to use her as a DD.
The whole story can be found with price breakdown HERE.
Stay tuned more to come soon I hope. =)

Re: My New Camaro!
Got another update:
Today I decided to put on the flowmaster muffler that came with the car but in between taking off the old and putting on the new I started it up without a muffler at all. The beautiful noise can be found HERE. This video doesn't disappoint for a free amazing sounding exhaust(or lack there of).
