Midwest Thirdgen Bbq Bash

Hey everyone.. It's been a bit since the Beef a roo event..
I have a even better idea in mind! I am thinking about reserving a shelter at one of the Forest preserves in the area on a Saturday or something, and have a big THIRDGEN cookout
with beer and stuff!
it's like 25 bucks to rent the shelter. I'll pay for the shelter and we could just have each person bring a dish to pass. and then for the beer.. we all just do the BYOB thing.
Everyone who is interested reply.. and suggest what weekend you think would be good for this and I will get everything set up and post the date!

This will be fun! there is even a baseball diamond at some of em so we can get baseball game goin if there is enough people, otherwise just toss the football around, frisbee, whatever!!!

hows this sound!!

Michigan?

It was either gonna be in Winnebego
county south of Rockford somewhere, or maybe in Oregon just a few miles south of Byron or something.. not Michigan!hehe
Oregon would be perfeecct.. I know
a park there that is great.. also
there is one called white pines forest
preserve which is really neat.. thats about an hour south of Rockford.. the park has a creek that crosses the roads in the park.. you actually drive through the creek.. its not deep.. but its pretty bizarre, and after crrossing two of em there is a part in the back which has a large parking lot where we could park all the cars...... Still tossin ideas.. I figured Oregon, and/or the white pines place cuz its further south, makes it not so far fort the Peoria crew, and the people from dixon, dekalb, ,and even chicago!..
just makes the northern dudes hafta
drive

Hey guys,

Sounds like fun to me. I have a conflict on 6/8 and 6/23. Other than that, I'm open. Let's do one early this summer and another later on.

Something to think about. DeKalb has the annual Corn Fest in late August. Might be a good time to get a bunch of 3rd Gens together.

Looking forward to getting together.

Oregon would work for me. About an hour from my place so not too bad. Let's get a date on the calendar and get the word out!

I'm located south of DeKalb and west of Aurora. There are several parks out this way that would be more centrally located. Someone let me know if I should check on availability.

Bluebird, since this was your idea, let me know what you think.

locations

I don't know many of the towns in ill. but i do know the chicago area. I would like to attend the bash so if you decide to have it will you post an address of the place that you are planning it at? That way I could mapquest it to see how far it is for the indiana group of 3rd geners! Many of us won't be able to take our cars really far,but somewhere in the middle would be good.Nobody from one certain area should have to do all the driving.Just a suggestion--if this is going to be an annual thing then we could always rotate what areas they are held in.That way nobody can really get to p*ssed off about how far it is.

Hey, I misread it, my fault. Yeah, I'll be up for it. I may be getting 3.73s because 4.10s you need a kit for a extra $100 or something. So that souldnt be too bad as long as its an hour or so. Maybe someone car ride with me. Let me know on the dates and such.

good idea.

Hey good idea Nikki.. well scope this action
out and see what you guys think.. I
been staring for 17 hours straight at the
road atlas trying to figure out what is the best
spot.. using a ruler and ****.. hehehehe just kidding.......

ANNNNNNNNNNYways.. here is what I have
devised..

:lala:
(idea)

I am going to Joliet this weekend to see the Top fuel Dragsters at route 66 racepark..after severe looking at the Atlas.. ONE idea I have is Starved Rock State Park, which is off of I-80.. when I BUSTED out the RULAH it measured up pretty "central" so to speak. but on my way downz to da races.. I will scope out this park to see if it has anything to offer, and I might take a PEEK at a few others along the way on 80 as I am heading east.
this way.. all the people from Aurora, Naperville, Chicago, Romeoville, Peoria, Indiana, Dekalb..<Whew>..... ok.. I'm not gonna keep naming every town that exist.. but you get my meaning..
and also.. if anyone wants to go to the route66 thing this weekend.. its sposed to be pretty kewl..... me and ol BLUE will be there for sure.. I want to have my eyeballs shaken by all thoose HIgh performance dragstersz...
I will post a post about the dragthingy in the midwest forum if anyone wantta follow or meet up.

otherwise.. post your comments, and we'll finalize this thing eventually, and determine the ideal hot spot.

I think starved rock is closing, not sure how soon....

for us N.central guys, I think that Rochelle is the perfect middle, its just that nothing goes on there

oregon is fine with me for one of our meetings, I know me a taturbo don't have to far to go (30 minutes)

Starved Rock is a good location. Just east of the I39/I80 intersection. It's a great place, lots of parking and things to do (hiking etc.)

The only things is that it's a state park so not sure what the rules on alcohol are.

Do we have a date yet?

Working on this one.. Time is short..
but I'll know more after this weekend.
Also there is the issue of Starved rocks park being a State Park.. and I would like to be able to have some beer... if not there.. I will look for something very close to it..... the atlas shows a lot of parks in that area....

Everyone stay tuned.......I am workin on this.. any help will be appreciated also....

Hey guys, I checked with Starved Rock. Alcohol is permitted in the picnic areas only. No alcohol is allowed on the hiking trails or campgrounds. If you want, I can see about making a reservation. There is also a small county park north I-80 about 10 miles that could be available too. A little off the main path but not hard to get to.

Let me know if I can help.

15th

I agree with Nikki. The 15th is coming up pretty quickly so there isn't a lot of time for planning. That is also Dad's day weekend so there could be conflicts there too. Isn't it a bummer that here it is the 1st of June and the month is already filled up!

Starved Rock is usually VERY crowded on the summer weekends. I did a little more research and just south of Starved Rock is another park named Mathesien which may not be a crowded. There are also parks along the Illinois River which runs just south of I-80 in several of the towns.

Again, let me know what I can do to help.

I can't go though unless its on a Saturday night or Sunday. I work Saturdays until 3:30-4:30 depending on if we're busy. But hey the closer to Peoria, Illinois the easier it is for me! I'm terrible at directions!!

Lets shoot for a Sunday.,.

Looks like a Sunday would be better..
and heres what I found out guys.,

I drove back from the races today.. JEZZZZZZZUS was that friggin awesome!!
those cars are so fast my entire body shook, 4 seconds in the 1/4 at 325 mph!!!!!!! woohoo!!

I got great pictures too.. when they are developed I will post them on my site, and link it up for people to get to it.. anwyays.. Starved Rock isnt set up for this very good.. However... the Park that is just 1 mile south of their that Deck Man is speaking of is descent.. I checkedd it out.. it has a really nice picnic area made out of logs like a log cabin, all woodsy andplenty of parking.. but reserving the shelter would be almost a necessity....

Deckman, if you know the # to that place.. see what Sundays would be acvailable for reservations, and if they have one get it.. Let me know what it cost and I'll throw some $$$ or what not.. heres my # so you can get ahold of me so we can get the ball rollin

Mark,

Here is the number for a couple of parks:

Starved Rock
Utica, IL 61373
(815)667-4726

Illini State Park
2660 E 2350th Rd
Marseilles, IL ZipCode
Phone815)795-2448

Buffalo Rock State Park
Buffalo Rock Rd
Ottawa, IL 61350
Phone815)433-2220

All of these are within 12 miles of each other in the Ottawa area between I-80 and the Illinois River. Hope this helps.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

that means you are either 16 or 30......at least that has been my experience, I'm 19, 6'1", 170 lbs, there, now you know who to look for (like "VIC V 8" on the plates doen't give it away, haha)

I posted some suggestions for dates for future gatherings on the link that Bluebird provided.

One event that I forgot to mention is the Riverfest in Ottawa is usually the last week of July. Lots of fun, music, etc. I-80 goes right through Ottawa so that could be another option.

See u on the 23rd!
