How much is your insurance?

Hey all, I'm checking around into insurance on my new GTA again because I was misquoted when I asked them the first time. I was originally quoted 1500 a year for full coverage on my 89 GTA. I thought that quote was extremily cheap. I specifically asked them if they had all the info correct and they did. I went over it twice with them. When I finally called again to register the car with State farm they quoted me 2300 a year on it. So somthing doesn't make sense to me. In any case, I'm trying to find a good insurance carrier for this car that isn't going to reem me.

The cost of insurance for one years full coverage is going to come out to more than i initially payed for the car! Even using Liability only I'm looking at 1,100 a year! Its not worth full coverage on the car, but liablility is still way more than I should think it would be.

I'm 22 now, and 23 in january. Full time student, No accidents what so ever. No Tickets, nothing at all. When it comes down to it, I have a perfectly clean record.

What are you guys paying?

I have it under dads names:
i used to pay 258 every six months for full coverage
now its about 360, no tickets or anything

I'm 19, dad just turned 50, no one in the family has had a ticket or claim in the last 10 years and my uncle owns the insurance company

Well, I talked to my Ins. Agent, and not the secretary. Turns out I was right. That premium of 2,300 was WAY wrong. And that had been only for the TransAm. Talked to her and I worked it out, Its only about 1400 a year for the TransAm with full coverage. I knew I was right.

Thats a much better quote. For now, the TransAm doesn't even get insurance because it doesn't run. Stupid Torx set was almost impossible to find! I had to search 3 different stores just to work on it.

22 with no accidents, and i hope to keep it that way!

BTW, you should check out progressive. I wasn't getting that bad of a quote from them.

I got a quote for 1,100 every 6 months from them. Full coverage, on both my Escort, and my GTA. 100/300 Comp/Coll. 50/100 BI, and a few others. Which is decent. Basically it works out to 2,200 a year for full coverage on two cars. But who says I'll keep the GTA on full coverage for the winter months. Then its going into storage.

My insurance is $711 every six months--that's $1422/year for liability only and I'm 20 with no accidents or tickets. I even get a good student discount and a multi-car discount 'cuz I'm under my mom's name. I have Country Companies for now, but need something cheaper. That sucks paying that much and never needing it!

Ataraxia, aren't insurance premiums insane? At that rate, if you go for 3 years without any claims, they can afford to buy someone a decent used car on just what you pay alone! And just think of how much Insurance companies make off of guys under 25. Which is a joke, because men are no longer the leaders in accidents. Its accually equalized between men and women now. But the rates have yet to reflect it.

Ataraxia, you should check into state farm, or Progressive insurance. They have good deals. I could get 750/6 months, full coverage. I realize I'm just a bit older than you, but you should get a small discount when you hit 21. And an even bigger one when you hit 25. Not that it helps you right now.

Seeking any thirdgen in NW Illinois with a GOOD body

Heh, Wes2k3, you shoulda heard me when I first layed eyes on my GTA. The first words out of my mouth when I looked at the car were, "Wow! Only 1 grand?! WTF is wrong with it?"

The 2nd words came when I got into the cockpit. "It looks like crap! No wonder its only 1 grand!" In all actuallity the interior was just unassembled, and not damaged. I'm working on getting it back to normal. Won't take long, but I'm working on the engine first.

Well, you are getting ripped off! Too bad you and the other millions of male teens are getting ripped off too!

I don't know why they still think that women are safer drivers than men. Considering that both sexes are about equal in the number of accidents that they are involved in. The last study I read up on this discovered that a woman was more likely to get into a accident than a man at age 16 years. And that a man was more likely to get involved in a accident at 18 years. But both numbers were pretty much equal from the ages of 16 to 21. With accidents occuring more at different ages.

Yet insurance rates have not changed to reflect this.

i went out and got collectors insurance on mine....as long as you have one other car to prove as a daily then it tends to be no problem.

insured for a lot and only pay 300 a year...

now this ones a different story!

yeah I did the same thing as you, Jeff. I insured mine as a "pleasure vehicle" only to be driven less than 7000 miles per year and never to work or school. The other condition on the policy is no drivers over 45 ( can't figure that one out )

My insurance is through Liberty Mutual and it costs $357 a year for full coverage. As Jeff pointed out, as long as you have a daily driver and don't drive the wheels off of your F-Body the rates are low. Plus we both live in "low crime" communities.

I'm 31 on Sunday for the record

18 years old, two accidents. (not really my fault for either, but since weather can't be blamed, i got the tickets) I had state farm but they were charging me 850 every 6 months for liability. Now i'm with Rural insurance. Its only 350 every 6 for liabilty.

I pay $1,017 every six months.

This is for my 85 and 95 Trans am's. I'm 20,2 tickets on my license, and this is all in my name.

Equals out to $197 a month.

Progressive is the ****!
