machine shop advice

I am looking for a good machine shop around Michigan. If you know of any, how good they are, and are they decent priced, please post them.

The shops i have called are not being very much of help, and one shop told me $350 for a basic valve job(with out bigger intake valves)

BTW, i plan on a valve job, bigger intake valves, screw-in-studs, and hot tanked.

Thanks:hail:

I don't exactly know where you are located, but Glendale Auto Supply has always been my #1 pick. They pressed my pistons, checked and cleaned my rods for $65. Not too shabby. They also quoted me for a stage 2 bore and hone for my block at like $220. They are good people, just sometimes a little grumpy. They are quick too. Oh yeah, the one I am talking about is in Farmington. There are others across Michigan but I'm not sure how much they charge. Hope this helps!

Those sound like pretty good prices, although they are about 3 hours away. I live on the other side of the state, around kalamazoo.

the only place i know of in the state that does the hot tank is katech....could be wrong. they are at least the best i know of.

they are known through out the country and have been referred to by many magazines.

might look into it, although don't expect to get in anytime soon with autorama rush going on right now.

you know what, now that i think of it........not hot tanked but some other special thing that's done. anyway, check them out.

hey pat, theres a awesome machine shop in alpine, not sure if you know where that is, but its right next to grand rapids. anyways the guy that works at this place used to work for a dodge dealership but now works on his own, but works on any engine now. his prices are really cheap, a buddy of mine had a 2.0 4banger ported and polished, and bored out the cylinders for bigger pistons and the guy only charged him 200. i will get the name of this place later on 2day for ya, btw good luck with your car man! its coming along great

Im guessing Katech is by detroit some place? I dont have a problem at all traveling a distance if its worth my time, I will get a number and call them today. I found a shop about 30 minutes away from me that hot tanks, and had good prices, but was a total *** to me on the phone.
Thanks Kandied91z

Ron, if you could get me a name, and maybe even a number that would be great!!

BTW...I just need the heads back by mid May so I can get the engine put back together and tuned before the Nats

look in magazines.........i know i was wanting to have my shortblock built by them but my time constraints is limiting and it won't really be worth the extra money.

like anything i'm sure it won't be free; you'll have to check with them on pricing as i don't know enough about machine shop prices. if you have any problems please email me and i'll try to help look into it with you when i get some time.

seeing as your not in a hurry you should have no problem; now unlike me on the other hand who has to rebuild my whole car in the next 5 weeks for autorama...........life is a constant hectic schedule until the day i'm sitting in my chair!

by the way; you can call me jeff. you should try to make it out to autorama and check out the car. all of you should, it would be cool to meet some thirdgen people; i'm kind of a loner out here...what with me and maybe 5 other people tops.

you can call me pat. Yeah im not in a huge hurry like you, i still have to port and polish the heads, will be starting them in a day or two. Im just the type of person that likes to know what is going on before hand. I've read some of the other posts, have you figured out an engine combo yet? I would love to come see your car at Autorama, is that in Cobo? I am gonna try to get over there, but having a broken leg its hard doing some of that stuff. Working on my car is hard enough i just hope it gets done by june, should be ready for the paint shope in less then a month

Good luck on your car!!!

pat
