Tinting laws enforced in IL?

How strict are the IL cops about window tinting? i want like 15% on the sides and 5% in back. will the cops really be on my case all the time? thanks

well buddy i may have some insight for you as my father was a cop in gurnee for 18 years. i know up in the suburbs the tinting laws are more stressed then out in the boondocks where i reside now. i asked my dad that question a couple years ago and he said that as long as he could see a shape of a persons body in the drivers and passengers side of the car he didnt care. there are other bunghole cops out there who are strickly rule book players so watch out for that.

I've got 5% all around on mine.. The car is also black so it doesn't stick out to cops as much.. I've asked several cops and they've all told me they're not so much against the dark tint as they are against the mirrored stuff.. Cops HATE mirrored tint. Also.. It's really not a big deal, especially if you're like me and don't drive your car in the winter, and you've always got your windows down.. I always drive with the t-tops and windows down unless it's raining.

I've got 20% on the sides and 5% on the back. I've had them on since July and have never been stopped or anything. If its really really dark, you may get stopped. But if its not that bad, they may just add it to another ticket if you get stopped for speeding. If I get stopped for speeding, I plan on just rolling down both windows so the cop knows I'm not hiding anything behind the tints.

I hate to give this answer, but it depends on where you live.

In most rural areas and small towns of less than 5,000, the cops give you a little leway, they may give you a warning.

If you live in a college town, like SUIC in Carbondale where I am at now, they enforce the laws big time, especially when cars are parked. There is a green Grand Am that has gotten at least 3 tickets for the dark mirror tint.

Most of the small towns especially in the southern part of the state don`t even mess with window tint what you have to watch out for are the state troopers and you can tint the back window as dark as you want but you are not allowed any tint at all on the side windows P.S. to all those in the southern part of the state from Mt. Vernon down on I-57 there is a trooper in a green 95ish mustang that is completely unmarked and I know this because up until I moved a year ago he bought his cigs from me every day at the gas station I worked at.

Oh one other thing state boys have been known to make you remove it on the side of the road.

you can to tint on your side windows but it is a set percent. i cant recall the percent of tint but i know for a fact that you can have tint on the sides. cuz if you couldn't then minivans would be having alot of tickets.

you can not in illinois tint the driver's front or passenger's front windows. All other windows you can tint. Minivans never have these front windows tinted from the factory.

I dunno where you get your facts from

Like Steve said, you cannot have any tint at all on the front drivers side window or front passenger side window. Minivans have the back windows tinted, but never the front two.
