I nned your guys help please!

I'm 15 (At the time this happened I'm 16 now) I've always loved Camaros and Trans Ams so I worked for three years on and off saving up my money to buy one. I could not afford to buy a decent looking older FBody and I don't like the new ones so I decided to look for 3rd gens. One day at work I spotted one in the newspaper with the LO3 (5.0 TBI) so one of the first things I do was called my insurance agent at Farm Bureau I asked her roughly (Just and estimate) what per a month this car would cost for full coverage she said anywhere from $800.00 per year to $1200.00 per year. So now it's after work this is the first car that I go to see and I fall in love with it. It had rims, tint, sound system, everything I ever wanted except air conditioning. We ended up purchasing the car for $3600.00 I went to the bank and with help from my father got a loan. 187.00 per month for 3 years. No big deal I can handle that. Before I turned 16 I was paying $55 per month. I turned 16 last December it's now April and yesterday I found out that they want to charge me $264.00 per month in insurance. Thats a total of $3168.00 per year. I'm so pissed off. That is a total of $454.00 per month in insurance & car payment. I work my butt off trying to pay for my car I can hardly make it to next month let alone have enough money to go to the movies, or do anyhting for my car. I wake up at 6 in the morning go to school to 3 then come home for 1 hour then go to work from 4 to 11 p.m. I'm mad at the insurance lady and I want to know how much you guys around my age are paying for insurance.

Thanks for letting me vent, I needed that.

And someone please try to convince me a reason to keep my car if I can't have any fun driving around or customizing it?

Tyler

try insuring your car having your dad as the primary driver, works for me $1000 a year or so for full coverage

Don't get full coverage, the car isn't worth it. I pay about $900/year for liability on my car with a good student discount.

He has a loan on the car. Full coverage is probably mandatory.

Man you guys, I put liability and comp on mine when I was 18, (when I got the car, I'm 24 now) and I only paid $279 every six months. No good student discount, primary driver, etc. I have no idea why you are paying so much, that is rediculous. Check around at other insurance companies, someone is bound to be more reasonable than that!

I feel your pain. I am 19 and finally looking to get the GTA back on the insurance for the summer. I looked into some companies online, and they ranged anywhere from $750/6 months [Geico] to $3000/6 months. Those prices are for LIABILITY ONLY, no comp/collision. This is outrageous, seeing as that I have never had a ticket or been in an accident. Keep the replies coming, because I want to find an affordable company.

insurance

Sounds like all you guys are getting the shaft on insurance. I am 17 and i have an 86 iroc camaro that i paid 6,000 for. It has a 400 hp 383 stroker, and i pay $250 every 6 months for liability and partial compensation. It is under my parents insurance, and listed as a pleasure vehicle, which it is. I take pleasure in driving it everyday. I am listed as the primary driver of my truck though, which is a 89 half ton 2 wheel drive with a 454. That truck costs me about $55 for liability. My car is probably $45 a month, and the partial compensation covers hitting a deer and stupid **** like that. If you have a camaro or something like that, look to insure it as a pleasure vehicle, or at least have your dad or mom as the primary driver. The insurance company has no way to know who is driving the car all the time.

You Illinois peeps have it rough... I've never heard of cheap insurance in Illinois, period. Iowa seems to be a lot like the Wisconsin guys are quoting i.e. being a LOT cheaper to insure a car. Mainly because of the location's insurance zone keeping costs localized so that people living in B.F.E. don't have to pay for all of the wrecks that are mathematically more probable in large cities.

Just FYI, 30 year old single male, insured full coverage including higher comp rider for the stereo installation, primary driver, good driving record... $68 a month in Des Moines, Iowa.

Full coverage is worth it. Last year by old 89 bird got broken into at the mall, shattered rear window and slashed RF tire. Insurance company quoted 2700 to fix, its worth more than the car.

They wrote me a check for $2200 ($2700 less $500 deductible) to buy the car. I bought it back for $900, found a used window, and fixed the tire, all for $250 bucks. I turned around and sold the car for $2000. So what was supposed to be a $2500 car turned out to be a $3300 car.....all cuz i had full coverage insurance.

Then I bought my red one for $3200

I pay $90 a month ($1080/year) in full coverge on my red TA with a $500 deductible.

Now that I have two V8 trans ams (88 and 95), my insurance went up to $125/month ($1500/year) for full on the 95 and liability on the 88.

Whats up?
If I put full coverage on my car and i total it the insurance company will probably only give me about $4000 tops, cause thats about what my car blue books for. The probablem is that i paid $5750 for my car with a 383 stroker with over 400 hp, but the insurance company doesn't know that. Plus i just stuck another $1200 into a rear end and tires. I'll get the shaft on my car if i total it, unless i tell the insurance company about my motor and alll the other **** i did to it, and then my insurance $ goes way up. Thats why i just have liability, plus compensation to cover all stupid things like deer, and getting stolen, i think?

A bit silly to not cover your mods if you want to be paid for them after a wreck, don't you think? If you have a value on your mods and have a number in your head of what it would cost to buy another car with similar mods, then you need a car appraisal. Your insurance may go up less than you think...

I purchased a '70 vette. Had it appraised at $12,000 (cost me $20 for a written car appraisal), had it insured for $9,000, only had $6,000 into it. It can work out for you... the vette only cost me $23 a month on a "sunny day only" policy.

first you should call around and get prices from different companys. I have my cars 4 set up as Rec vechicles. I have a Sundance as my daliy driver. Then I have a 86 IROC, 87 IROC and 96 WS6 Formula as rec vechicles. I don't drive them more than 7,500 miles a year. That is each car. I pay about $400.00 every 6 months on the Sundance and the 86 and 87 is $200.00 every 6 months. The WS6 is $400.00 every 6 months. That is with a $500.00 DED.
I would have your father as the primary driver and you as the secondary. If you are not going to drive it year round I would do it that way or disconect the speedo before you get to 7500 miles each year. Just my .02
