Your best bet is to talk to Brandon at Barker Automotive in Bartlett. He really knows what he is doing with this kind of conversion. I gaurentee you will like his work. (847) 741-5585
Make sure you ask for Brandon specifacally and tell him you are friends with Brian with the red thirdgen.

I don't know where you would find an LT1 intake in this area, but for the installation do the same. Just tell him (brandon) that I told you to go to him. Try ebay for the intake.

Why don't you just use your stock motor and do an intake conversion?

the intake, with modification by either yourself or John Millican (lt1intake.com) to reposition the middle four holes on each side, and add a distributor, a distributor shim, coolant ports, and removal of EGR from the back of the intake, will fit on stock heads. However, he's gonna need a tpi wiring harness, a tpi computer, all the sensors, a chip, a programmer, a small cap tpi distributor, a remote thermostat housing, and hoses from the intake coolant ports to the remote thermostat housing.

this can be simplified slightly, you can use lt1 heads so that you don't have to modify the intake except for the distributor and coolant provisions, however it is even more difficult and expensive to modify the heads to fit the block, so simple, in respect to intake and head mods, is relative.

about the time you fund all the parts required to use either or both and pay for the modifications, you've spent enough that you could have bought an LT1 drivetrain, seriously. And why would you bother, underneath it all, you still have a 20 year old engine on it's last leg, that was underpowered from the factory, the only thing you've changed is intake flow, which IS significantly better, but doesn't do much for anything smog era because without a complete rebuild, most weren't worth wasting your time on. IMHO.

Lastly, none of this matters, because cheesee48 wants to do an LT1 engine swap (whole engine), he already has the engine.

I was just gonna buy the LT1 full motor and everything from a junk yard, only problem is i live in a apartment so i wouldnt be able to drop it in myself as for lack of space for tools and equipment. I could doit with little difficulty if i had the resources to doit or time. If anyone knows where i can pick up a FULL LT1 with computer and harness let me know please, i really wanna get this swap done and get that dog of a 305 out of my car.

junk yards are pretty much your only option, most of the lt1's on ebay are sold by junkyards, there are only a few individuals i've ever seen sell full lt1 drivetrains

will the stock drive shaft be enough to hold up to a LT1 and a 4th gen 3.42 rear? i found a guy who will get me the motor and install it for around 1000 , or motor for 750 and i install it myself in his shop.

the stock driveshaft and rear end in your car should be plenty fine, unless you've got a weird gear or a drum rear, there's not much reason to swap in a 4th gen rear.

By install it, do you mean put it in and get it to run or just put it in? either way, if you have to have someone put in it for you, 250 is a very reasonable price. Out of curiosity, what year engine are you using? 93 is kind of the bastard year, they used a 4l60 and batch fire, in 94 they went to the 4l60e and sfi, 94 & 95 are the easier engines to swap because 96/97 used odbII and therefore had more sensors to deal with....but it's personal preference as far as that goes.
