my fat car and Looking for a crew
when i was grabbing some harness connectors at the boneyard today i decided to weigh my car. it weighed in @ 3520 lbs. with me in it. I think this is pretty good, but i am going to remove all unecessary things shortly. I also need to rip my smog stuff out and my ac and heater box. I drive my Trans Am as my daily driver all the time now and im still wanting to get a ton of people together. I live just a few miles away from Appleton and was curious if anyone wanted to come to the A-town with their f-body and represent. There seems to be an abundance of uncle bens and tuners. Some of these guys actually mod their imports and others are just all show and no go. I think it would be great to get together on a friday or saturday night and just roll in massive numbers. Post any input!
p.s. I just bought a sub box and should be getting an mp3 player today and some subs and an amp. Personal thanks to my brother for helping me tear my entire interior to pieces and cleanly install my wiring. I did clean my garage out and plan on utilizing it for general repair and just my own personal mod garage. I have limited space and will have access to air and a variety of tools shortly, one of my friends will be working with me and he has most of the connections and tools (pipe bender, air, sockets ect. ect.)
wish me luck. advice is always welcome.

I'll be at RSD tonight myself as well. Same deal here though, just a spectator tonight. I wish my chevelle was ready to go, I could put a real whooping on most of those smart *** imports. Oh well, should be ready for the next one in july.

Ah my computer was messed up later in the day friday and couldn't check this out in time. Did I ever give you my cell number? If not PM me if you are still interested in a rear and I will give you my number.
How did you like the drags last night? I thought they kind of sucked compared to other RSD nights. My good friend is the one with the black primered Nova that raced the orange Malibu for $500 and the Malibu barely made it off the line. That Nova puts out 800 hp on the 540 motor alone plus sprays another 400. Don't ever get conned into racing him for $$. That car runs high 8's.

I guess that comp cams polymere gears aren't as good as they claim.I forgot the Greenbay Madman was there. I don't think he sprays tho.

I honestly wouldn't know if thats who you are talking about on the internet or not.
This was his first time this year getting it out to the track. He was out for the last RSD last year for the wheelie contest they did, he was the one that dragged his rear bumper about 500 ft. down the track. He was also just recently in Car Craft doing a nasty wheelie too.
84firebird383, what caused your gear to go bad? I run a comp polymer on my 595hp 468 (in my 69 chevelle) as well and have never had a problem with it in the three years it has been in it. I have a huge solid roller cam in it with a mallory unilite distributor and locked out timing and the gear still stays perfect turning that motor over on start up. I also pull my motor every year and go thru and inspect it for wear which may be helping as well, because it gets a thorough cleaning at least once a year. Good luck getting it back together, hopefully their is no other damage.

Not sure yet what caused the failure.I just had the car towed home and its sat ever since. The gears remaining teeth had no real wear marks and the oil pump spins freely so right now I have no clue.

I would try calling comp cams and see if they will replace it for you. I assume you are running a roller cam if you had to change your gear, did you use a cam button or anything to prevent the cam from walking? Thats the only thing I could think of that could cause the teeth to come off the gear, the cam walked either forward or backwards. You may want to pull the intake and timing cover as well to check to see if the cam moved. How old is this engine?

Wow, that has me a bit worried with mine now. Dam, I really don't want to shear the teeth off my distributar gear. Especially after paying $100 for it.

To give you an Idea of how fast it is, I raced Mark the race before I broke and lost by about 1 length, but I ran a full half second slower than the race before. Also, even tho I lost to Mark my MPH was 1MPH faster than his. I think the race against Mark(Kamu406 on WSD)was the beginning of the end for the cam gear. Last edited by 84firebird383; Jun 7, 2005 at 07:30 PM.
