Figure I would spead the good news to the world. Today at my college held an advisors committee meeting that we have every semester and we had 2 guest speakers from the Illinois EPA, Ken Beauvies and Jim Wellman, and they said as of February 1, 2007, there will be NO MORE testing on vehicles that are a 95 or older model year. This is simply because less than 30% of all vehicles tested last year were pre-95, and every years they will decrease more and more. If you are scheduled to go for emissions you still will have too (like I am do back in August of 07 and that will be my last time) but once you go anytime after February 1 of 07 you will no longer need to go after that.
So good news for all you out there will older cars. I knew there was a reason I liked my 91 Camaro
BTW this is in Illinois ONLY....sorry forgot to add that in the title!!!

Sounds too good to be true since I was told that the emissions was based on counties and not the state. Mcdonough county, where WIU is, does not have emissions at all and Lake County where I live has extreme emissions. It would be nice but I don't believe it for one second.

I kid you not, I talked to the gentlemen that were at my school and asked the same question over and over worded a million different ways just so I was hearing this correctly. BUT if you are already scheduled to go in either 07 or 08 ALREADY you will still need to go one last time. But like me my car isn't registered yet and I will wait till after Feb. 01 before I register it if needs be.

May seem to goot to be true But read what I found

Item L states that any vehicle 1995 or older with a valid emission sticker as of Feb 7, 2007 is exempt.
It has passed both the house and senate.
As long as the gov signs it it seems to be real.

you know Gov. whiney-pants-save-alot will sign it, anything he can do to save money is ok by him....unless there is some really big group lobbying him not too, but most people dont even know about it so I wouldnt worry......I once delivered a pizza to his wife and kids at their house in Chicago (very surreal)

huh?
So explain this to me better. I live n Madison County, area code 62294. And from what this is telling me, all i have to do is get my 87 camaro (2.8 V6) tested one more time and then i can drop a 350 in there without having to worry about emissions? If this is all true, YAY! And also, if i put a V8 in my V6, i have to get my title changed right? any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

Indiana is talking about the same.
Basically most of IL and IN that were way over limits are now under the limits and have been for the better part of 10 years or so.
I will only believe any instituion the g'ment run closes when i have seen it with my own two eyes lol

Here's my story. Car has never been registered in an emissions county/area before. I have a beast of a 383 in the midst and it won't pass emissions. I now live where they have emissions and am looking to register the car in the next year. Will I still have to have it tested per this rule of 1 last time before never again?

^ It's my understanding that pre-95 vehicles that are registered in Illinois AFTER Feb 1 (tomorrow) will never need to be tested. The "1 last time" thing applies to certain vehicles that are already registered in Illi. So you'll be just fine

God I hope this to be true. Emissions was 1 of 2 things keeping me from bringing the car up here.

Exactly, so if you register it after the 1st you won't have to go for emissions
