IL: Need a machine shop/engine rebuilder SW Chicago

Hey guys, here's the deal. I pulled the L98 out of my vette this week and it's currently on the stand stripped to the block/rotating assembly. I had a builder lined up and it fell through today, he's too busy. I want to get this off for machining and assembly quick.

At this point it's up in the air if the motor will be a 355 or 383. I'd prefer a stroker, but it will depend on final cost. I also need my heads cc'd and the valve springs tested. I'd also like final assembly done.

I've gotten two other suggestions from guys as far as shops go:

Otis Automotive in Oak Lawn and Midwest Engine Tech in Mokena.

Anyone have any personal experience with either? Other suggestions?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Matthew

Book Racing in Mokena has a good name.

Also Moellers Motors in Crete does great work. They built a 400 pontiac for me about 10 years ago and they have a great rep in the area.

R and R engineering in Addison Il, talk to Skip. The outside pad for the starter bolt was cracked on my block and every machine shop in the area said it cant be fixed (Ateam told me to throw the block away cause its useless now ) it turns out cast can be welded but none of the shops had anyone who had the skills to do it. I called Skip at RnR and he told me to bring it in and he would weld it and retap it for $40. I ended up having them do all my machine work for my 385 sbc and I couldnt be happier. The only machine shop in Chicagoland I will ever go to again.

Did you find a machine shop yet? I just completed a 383 build and the machine shop i used was great. Very knowledgeable and good prices as well.

Albers Automotive

Kankakee, IL 60901-4734

Ask for Bruce. He is soft spoken but is a wealth of knowledge and a hell of a nice guy to boot.
