Very nice car man. No mods on mine yet and probably not for a while seeing as I crashed it and I need a new nose. I'm replacing the nose, ground effect, parking lights, and grill. Then I'll work on mods. I'm only 16 so it'll be a while to save for some mods and I might have to sell my car anyway cause the lady I rear-ended filed a claim (even though she said she was fine and not to worry about her bumper at the scene) and if my insurance goes up too much, I won't be able to drive.

hello newbie, I'm pretty close to your area, but I spend about ten months of the year in college at WIU in Macomb. As far as learning about good mods. for your car I'd check out the recent July issue of Chevy High Performance. They just started a nice article for a Camaro build-up. By the way your cars body is in excellent condition, I'm jealous. 3 years from now my car will be a high velocity rust bucket.

hello highspeedfreak, My permanent home (with parents) is in carpentersville which is pretty close by. Carpentersville is immediately north of Elgin. Unfortunately I'm spending the majority of my time for the forseeable future at Western Illinois University in Macomb; it's way the hell out there, about an hour south of the quad cities. So the chances of us buddying up anytime soon are slim.
I have learned a lot about Camaros over the last year and a half and may have a little good advice if you have some questions though.
As far and rust protection goes I've recently went over some the bad spots with POR-15 (it's an indestrutable rust convertor paint) which should help, but my car will never look nice without serious body work far beyond my skill level. The rear wheel wells are almost gone on one side along the edges. The brightside is I don't really care, I'm going for the rough mad max style ride with a military theme.
Anyway I'll talk to you later,

Hi highspeedfreak, welcome to the board. I've learned everything their is to know about cars from this board (and lots of magazines). I started off where you were at with a 88 SC 5.0 TBI V8 and learned little by little. I'm pretty good with RS's seeing as I had my ol' 88 whooping on some Iroc-Z's around here. It wasn't close to stock but it sure was fun to watch them gasp at the amazement that their 350 lost to my 305 TBI. Don't mean to shoot you down or anything but RS's are not by anymean fast and they werent intended to be, although you can make them fast it's gonna take A LOT of work, so just incase you were looking for speed, don't spend any money on mods for the RS when you can get a faster car and save some of that cash to mod up a L98 350. Anyway your car is in immaculate condition and looks beautiful (if i had my choice id keep my old rs = /). Glad to have you aboard.

Hey 90Iroc-Zee!!!
Thanks for the info!!!
But i was wondering - what if at a later stage - when i had some cash - that i put a new engine in it!!! Would the hassle of a new engine be worth it - or should i just save up for another car???

The only problem is - there are not many camaro's for those years in the shape this car is in - and i kinda bought this car - just for the looks - and being a V8 - didnt know much about 305's being that much slower then 350's???!!!

Man that kinda really jolted my plans - lol - i wanted to buy a POS for everyday driving - and work on this one!!! Ouch - but thanks - always helps to be informed!!!

But plz let me know - of any suggestions on what i could do with this car - being a new engine or whatever!!!

Thanks
Jay

hey speed. you should add a openelement K&N it will increase airflow and add a deeper tone to exhaust. then get an after cat system that is most noticable mod to do right away. flowmasters are really popular here but i went with BORLA, BORLA is normally $550-600 for the system but i got mine from a 98Z in the wrecking yard.
but hooker catback is great too.

basically look into mags like CHEVY HP. and GM High Tech Perf. and Super Chevy. they always have stuff about camaros and project cars

and look through all the boards you will learn so much just by reading what other people have done and dont be afraid to ask questions even if they sound dumb someone will understand and explain it.

just have fun and keep that car mint.
i would almost take a mint RS before an IROC somedays.
but after experiencing an IROC with a modded 350 and a tight suspension. not today.
but someday i will want an RS that is mint for driving and cruising. and dont mod the outside of the car with stickers and stuff. if you do mod the car make it engine trans and rear.
make it a sleeper.
oh and a shift kit will help but make sure you dont have too many miles on your trans or it will blow the 2nd-4th gear clutch gear thingy. my friend just did this in his 92 PURPLE RS. but he had the $1000 to rebuild his trans from graduation money.

oh well. just have fun and research and ask questions we are all here to help!

Hey transampwr!!!
Finally someone with the same interests close by!!!

I want another engine too - after i read all the posts which basically say 305 tbi are not that fast!!! And also some of the mods u wanna do to your car - are on my list too!!! (I checked out your website)

Maybe ill mail u with some questions - and u could help me out - cause i really dont know that much - but i want a faster car - yup same old story!!!

Will mail u soon transampwr - if u dont mind that is!!!

RARE-ROC-Z - i was recomended - to do an engine swap - a L98 350 - and then do the mods (i have no idea what kinda motor that is) - by 90Iroc-Zee!!! So i was looking for suggestions on motors and a tranny (i have an auto - want to put in a manual - and i heard the factory tranny might or surely wont be able to handle the more powerful engine)!!! So do u have any suggestions???

And another thing - money - yes - always a problem - but i wanna get the best for my car/baby - preferably brand new motor and tranny and parts!!! And when i mean best - i dont mean fastest - but somewhere there!!! So i dont mind doing it gradually - but surely is more important!!!

Thanks
Jay
