hello all, new here. few donor car questions
new to this board, read a few posts here and there for the last year or so, just joined.
im in my early-ish 20's and never new crap about cars until this year. any car, it was so bad id rather let a girl look under the hood before i even thought of touching it
.
HOWEVER as of the past 3 months i been trying to learn as much as possible so i might be able to rebuild my 82.
its been kinda a dream car since i was a kid. i grew up playing sega genesis and the lines of the body molding back then i always thought looked slick,
unlike some of the rounded aerodynamic bubbles today, ie; i always thought louvers looked amazing.
i got an 82 that has been sitting since 86 or 89 i forget due to a problem with the v6 [so i heard] the owner before me bought it in 2009 and dropped in a
400 truck motor met for an RV he found, and 350 turbo. the inside is nice no cracks on dash [ok theres one but its really small] and if you pick up the floor mats carpets look new.
i picked it up in 2012 i think for 4k [wanted 5.5k]
i have a bunch of parts just need help putting them on.
holly 750 double pump/ intake/ holly gas pump / new distributor
SOME CHANGES ID LIKE DONE [that i do NOT have parts for]:
1 - 145mph [110mph] spedo cluster [my 85mph speedo and tach dont work]
2 - useful headlights [cant see anything with mine]
3 - 700r4 transmission [overdrive]
4 - posi track/lsd
5 - bigger dual exhaust [mine has Y pipe]
a friend of mine has a buddy with a rusted out 1991 RS
would i be able to pull any parts off
manly did the 91rs ever come with
110mph spedo cluster, a 700r4 [overdrive] or posi track/lsd
i havent seen it yet so i have no clue, its not a long drive but its far from close.

IIRC the 91 speedo/tach will not work with your '82. It is run off of a vss I believe. A little yellow box that controls the electrical inputs and converts them to your gauges.
I'm in the same boat as you, just read as much as you can on the treads. Searching usually leads to some answers too.
Good luck!

Speedo won't work with yours, the rear on the 91 is most likely a 2.73 open rear, I'd check the voltage at the harness for the headlights. Like said before do a lot of searches you'll learn a ton of info on these cars.

Yah most likely for the speedo just use an app on your phone and get an aftermarket tach. I put 7k miles on my '91 this summer with no speedo and tach. No issues until a jeep slammed on his brakes in front of me.

Man is that ever dissapointing. Is there any other cluster/ spedo that will work? (Any year i Dont care as long as I can come across it) Even the one 110mph? (Or *gasp* another year/style 85mph)
I seen that there is what looks like 2-3 types of the 145mph with a left horizontal min to right horizontal max spedo and one that looks a little more classic round. That makes no difference witch style just Sol?

welcome!! Any question you have can be answered here. the regional section is good for sharing local info, but you want to use the tech boards for the info you looking for. the search function is very helpful. I'm not talking about the search bar at the top of the page, use the search pull down menu and use the advanced search. I always get better results with that. Good luck!!
90-92 gauge cluster won't work in your 82. check these out.

It says82-89. Call and ask hawks if there is anything else you would need to do.

Re: hello all, new here. few donor car questions
You should be able to go to a junkyard and find a cluster that will work out of an 82-89 camaro.
Buy this book and read the F-body section, you won't regret it.

I know it says "1983" but it covers 82 as well, good details and breaks down how to work on literally everything in these cars.
