michigan thirdgen gathering
michigan thirdgen gathering
cruising season is quickly upon us........
besides the few major track days, the camaro superfest, and the camaro street nationals; along with every other little show and cruise during this upcoming summer a bunch of us from camaroz28 and a few other sites are trying to get a small gathering together sometime in may; we are already up to about 25+ cars so the more the better.
right now it's looking like a southern woodward area for the first meet.
any preferences on ideas, times, days, etc. are welcome and appreciated. if someone can get more than 25 cars to gather elsewhere maybe we can convince the rest to move the location. seeing as how most 3rdgen owners are so split up across the state; woodward seems to be the most central for the general group.
although the first meeting will be to see how things go and for one another to meet other fellow enthusiasts; if everything goes as well as planned we also will also have a few dates that include group outings, bbq's, and a few other choice things.......depending on the overall size an how this takes off we also have a few choices for magazine spots as well as article reviews. the fact that nice thirdgens are rare, people are hopping on the idea of more than 2 or 3 getting together at the same time.
let anyone know that is interested in thirdgens or owns one; let's get this thing going as it's about time more 3rgens started getting together!
we can't let 4thgens have all the fun.

I'll be at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex tomorrow. I'm trying to break past 101 MPH and into the 13's before retiring the Feeble305.
I just found out that my distributor is shot so my chances might be poor

haha, ok pretty good, it took me two re-reads to catch it though.
I broke the ring and pinion and differential, just scattered the whole rearend. the tranny also pops out of first gear and shifts hard. too many launches with ~300 hp nad torque finally killed it off.
I want to do a T56 swap but would be content with a t5 rebuild. i also want 4.10 gears and an eaton posi, Drivetrain specialists will sell the parts and install it for ~$900, but...
I need to fix it but I'm a poor college student...you've heard the line. I also can't justify much money on the maro because of the little Triumph Spitfire roadracer, it eats up $500 per set of tires every other race weekend...ouch.

alright were looking within the first two weeks of may; that leaves 4-5 weeks and 3-4 solid weekends of time to work on all of your rides and get things going.
we will be meeting at the lower half of woodward. 10-16 mile. as to where an when exactly will depend on who participates.
so far the estimated day will be may 4 which is a saturday night (subject to change of course).
post here if you interested and let us know so we have an estimated idea of the size our crowd is going to be, were already at a solid 20+ so the more the better.
like i said this is just a first of what's too come, if your car isn't ready or you can't make it just let us know your interested as we are planning many more events. this will be a great time for those to get to know one another and have a good time with other thirdgen enthusiasts.

I might try to make that gathering--- We'll see. It would be the first time I make a thirdgen event, ever. Sheesh, I've only been a member of thirdgen.org since its inception...
Read up on my bulletproofing tips for the ten-bolt. There's folks who are getting 70 to 80 full throttle blasts per season in the 1.6x 60-foot times from their 10-bolts, and they have followed some of these tips. There's a bunch of 4th-genners that are running mid-11's with their ten-bolts.

i figured for sure that there would be more 3rdgen support over here; is this really all of the thirdgens that frequent?
well unfortunately for some it will be may 4th, which is a saturday so it give plenty of time for those of you who might to plan for it. so far we have 35 unconfirmed cars and about a dozen confirmed........this is all within a weeks time!! even if half show it should be a good time and give we have almost a month until it should give us time to gather more.
while the location may seem far for some it seems to be the most central location for everyone; i myself have a drive so you won't be the only one.
if you know of anyone who might be able to make it or are interested in thirdgens please let them know. this should be a great time for all. there are plans for a bbq in the mid day as well as time for cruising at two of michigans most famous cruise spots all no further than 20 min apart.
so support the michigan thirdgen community and try your best to let others know. show up and have a great time, let your cars be seen and meet great people who are interested in the same hobbies as yourselves!

Guess what comes up that weekend for me?SAE officer's leadership training in Pittsburgh, PA.
Yep, looks like I'm going to be an officer for the mid-Michigan section of Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE). I'll be looking for engineers who can volunteer their time to go into the schools and help support "A World In Motion", a program for getting kids excited about science and engineering.
anyone and everyone is welcome, although it is mainly for thidgens, if you have one or are interested please come along.........if you don't have one or yours isn't ready yet come as well.
this is for all ages that are interested in thirdgens so it doesn't matter what you show up in although we would prefer it a thirdgen if possible; all we ask is that everyone who plans on attending please try to post or email me and let us know so we have an idea of how large an area we'll need.........also we ask that everyone behaves and conducts them selves properly so we don't have any problems with the police when we want to do this again.
bring anyone you want so long as they are interested in thirdgens. we will have younger guys and girls with thirdgens as well as families with theirs coming as well. it will be a good time.
