Third Gen GTA 1/18 Diecast finally being produced

Was not sure where to post this, mods please move if needed.

Someone is finally producing a 1/18 diecast of the third gen GTA. Greenlight collectibles is doing the 89 GTA in black and red and also will be doing the 89 pace car even though this is not on their site. Here is a link.

Little more info guys.
These will only be found at certain hobby stores and online dealers and if there like the rest of Greenlight cars there will only be 2,000 produced wich is a low run for a diecast car.

ya know, u might all want to quit jumping up and down just quite yet.

Im way scared by the fact that they have no prototype info or models.

Also the "GTA" is a TA from the pic and the TTA is the only one of one notchback TTA that showed up in early 89 literature.

I'm kinda worried about that.

Like when GMP does the turbo buicks and the like, least the pictures match what they say they are making?

When I see an actual prototype or production one, ill judge it than.

Now I can stop waiting in their bushes. I wonder if they'll make all the colors like they did with the 2nd gen ta models.

Understand what you're saying, but given the choices out there currently, there just isn't anything else in 1/18 scale third gen Firebirds aside from the Ertl KITT and KARR diecasts. So even if there are some inaccuracies, and they cast the notchback instead of a hatch, at least it's a start. And if they sell well there are sure to be other color/model variations.

Also, with some tooling changes, Ertl could even produce some stock versions based on the KITT mold. I would expect this to happen as its the usual practice to get maximum return on investment in a mold.

The only pics I've seen are of actual cars themselves.
The company releaseing these is pretty good at getting the details rite and usually post pics on there site of unpainted prototypes so we should see what there going to look like before they release it.

Pretty good at getting things right?
HA!
NO WAY!
Take a look at their 1980 Indy Turbo Trans Am in 1/18th scale!
Has a regular Trans Am hood with a hood scoop! Wrong!
The real car has a Turbo budge hood, like the early third gen Trans Ams, and later Formulas.
Looks like they just used the Yat Ming car to do a rare car version.
I'll wait myself thanks.

Hi Guys!

Glad to see you are excited about our upcoming 1:18 third gen's.

I wanted to come on here and address a few concerns I see have been posted. Our 1:18 1980 TransAm Indy 500 Pace Car was one of GL's first products and we were in a situation where we needed to source the casting, and source it fast which is why we used the YatMing piece even though it was incorrect. It sold amazing well even with all of its inaccuracies.

Another good point that was mentioned was in regards to the images currently posted on our website. I can assure you that the GTA we release will indeed be a correct GTA and that the Indy Pace Car will be the correct TTA that paced the 500 in 1989.

Release dates are still rough ETA's at this point so please bare with us. We will likely be staggering the release of the Pace version and the GTA's from our Muscle Car Garage line by a month or two. Which piece will be coming first has not yet been decided.

Thanks again everyone,

-Matt

I'll kind of help Matt out a little since I have been working with him and helping him get the pictures and information needed for the TTA. The reason that the picture shows a notchback TTA on their website is because that was one of the first photos released by GM for the TTA. They had their marketing lady find the picture and post it and she didn't realise that it wasn't exactley what the production TTAs will be like. Matthas had access to the actual pace car stored in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. I've tried helping him by pointing out major differences between the TTA and the GTA and he'll be trying to keep them as exact as possible and stay within the posted prices. They're still currently working on a preproduction model which from last that I heard was almost complete. I met with him in Indy about a month ago for him to get undercarriage shots and at the time he said that was pretty much the only thing they still had to do. He's suppose to be keeping me updated and hopefully I'll be getting pictures of the preproduction model soon.

from this company? slim to none. Greenlight specializes in Indianapolis 500 vehicles (both race and pace). They've started to make like a muscle car line also but typically it just includes vehicles which were already made for the pace car line and they just make the minor changes. That's why the GTA is being made because they originally planned to do the TTA and all they have to do is change under the hood and the colors and it's done.

well I contacted Matt about a week ago and he said the preproduction model is almost done. Once it's done he said he'd be sending me some pictures of it and I'll be able to post them once he does. I can't wait to see it personally because I know Matt and his coworkers have put a lot of time and effort into trying to make this the best model they can within reasonable costs. I know it's taking a little while but they're using the time to just make the model better and better. Should be getting the pics within the next couple weeks so make sure to check back once in a while and see if they've been posted.

Alright to give an update. I have seen prototype photos but have been asked not to post them. The car is simply astonishing. According to the site they're going to be limited production at 1,500 black cars and 1,500 red cars. So get your orders in now because I can garuntee you they won't last once people see the detail. Besides at the price you really can't beat it, and they're one of the few companies to make a GTA model (especially in 1:18) and the only company to make the TTA. Once I get pictures that I can post I will. They're still making some changes so I figure once the qwerks are worked out they will maybe release some prototype photos. Also according to the site it says the car won't be available until February 2007.

No you should be able to preorder them still. I know I have seen some on ebay. Here's a list of their distributors GreenLight Collectibles > Where to Buy Greenlight Products you might have to look around through a couple to find one to preorder through but should be able to find a good one. I believe that they should be actually going out around January, but I'm not definate on it. They were putting the last touches on the final product the last that I heard and were about to start working on everything they need for production.

This is the closest thing I could find to an actual picture. Just the prototype, but at least it's something.

Doesn't come out till Summer '07 though. Bummer, I was hoping it would be out by Christmas of this year

don't worry it will be well worth it. They're going into a lot more detail on the cars than what was originally planned.

Guess we'll just have to be patient, i'm amazed how long it takes to get these produced though.

like I said they've decided to add more detail than they originally planned. They're trying to raise their quality significantly to put themselves up along the lines of some of the top model car companies. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. If you're wondering about what you've really been waiting for I go into a lot of detail about the TTA model in this thread:

I don't know as many details about the GTA since I have mainly been working with them on the TTA. I have seen pictures of the GTA and it appears that they're going to be going into just as much detail.
