Front plate is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Honestly, what is its purpose?

Wish there was a petition for this in Mass! I have never put my front plate on any of my cars, or got in trouble for it, but I too have heard that it is very pricey if you get caught.

The reason for the front plate is RED LIGHT CAMERAS.
They need the plate and driver in the same picture.
These camera installations cost about $100K. but they pay for themselves in 6-9 months, after that it's all profit.

You should know by now that the Cancers start in Calif and spread easterly.

If there is a way to make money without overhead the tax collectors of the Peoples Republic of California will find a way.

Yeah, in NY we are stuck with those. My bro-in-law got pulled over and he tried to convice the cop how stupid it would look on his vette. For whatever reason the cop didn't buy it.

Here's another reason for them to enforce front plates. The material for the paint they use is highly reflective which makes the car with front plates visible to the radar at a much longer distance. 2nd in reflectivity being the headlights and 3rd being the rims. I think this info is from radartest.com, but I am not sure.

I can't think of any in Paramus off the top of my head, but there are plenty along Bloomfield Ave between Bloomfield and route 46. Also in a number of spots in Oakland. I find myself constantly on the lookout for them.

Only the gov't could rig up a $100,000 red light camera system. I could get it up there for about $1,500.

either that , or he thought you were a punk kid who was looking for trouble, for some stupid reason, i get that a lot, and i know a lot of other camaro drivers must get it also, cops just have the wrong idea... if you are in a camaro driving late, expect to be stopped for no reason.

actually lot of ppl i kno think of camaro drivers like that, which is pretty stupid, we gotta give us camaro drivers a new better stereotype!

I wouldnt stop at a red in Newark even if the cop was right behind me. I know of the red cameras in paramus and on 46, but the only one I can think of in my immediate area is in Glen Rock and Ridgewood (rich bastards). I know Hawthorne doesn't have cameras, but we do have plenty of cops who have nothing better to do than pull over an "arrrest me" red trans am at 1 AM.

i hate front plates sooo much. glad that PA dosen't have them, but my Lumina z34 came from NY, so it had a front plate holder screwed into the bumper cover took it off and had 3 ugly holes from it, my Lumina Euro 3.4 came from Ohio so it also has the plate holder, however my 87' camaro came from PA and never had and never will have one.

Being that it is private property, they dont have any TRUE jurisdiction there. Theoretically they're not supposed to be there, but if someone is parked illigally, the Mall Cops dont have legal authority to ticket, so they call PPD. Once the cop is there, to a certain extent he does have jurisdiction. Also, westfield may have given the PPD written permission to enforce violations on their property, in which case they can treat it just as if you were on a local road. Just my being that I'm both from Paramus, and the son of a cop.

HAHA, McGreevey is a sucking bastard... yea... but not just money

Ha I support no front plate as well, there is a reason for it... after doing a ride along with police and all, they like the front plate because if they want to run the plate through the system they dont have to go around to the back of the car to get the tag info. Ya never know, one of you MA thirdgen guys could be a bank robber or an axe murderer!

Ahh!

lets just change the law for 3rd gen camaros and firebirds then...

This is a big misconception. I know with malls and parking garages, the town that it is in has jurisdiction and state pd. For example, if I did something wrong in a parking lot of a mall in Eatontown, NJ, the both Eatontown cops and State Troopers could write tickets

Well, Eatontown cops have nothing else better to do but sit in the back of the mall and watch people run the random stop signs.

Why do we have to put plates on the front? What possible purpose does it serve. I've had three 3rd gen birds and the front plate with the ugly mounting bracket really took away the cars good looks. I bought a 69 mustang convertible in 90 (don't hate me please! or call me a trator) and man what a bitch it was finding a front plate bracket. And it looked *** awful. At least we pay less than two bucks a gallon for gas where I am down the shore and we still don't have to pump it ourselves!!

There is no way that petition is going to do anything. I'm not a fan of the front plates, but if the state deems it necessary there is a reason and they won't repeal it just becuase it's ugly. I love hearing people complain about getting pulled over for it and calling the cop obscenities. Wow, what a jerk, doing his JOB. Suck it up. If you break the law atleast be a man about it.

PennDot decided to revoke my plates for 90 days, so I sold the car to my dad for a buck, and had it registered in NY. Got th eplate in the front windshield, and I live in Harrisburg PA.

Niether state has bothered me about it.
