Hey orr. I was just reading my issue of Camaro Performers today, and they keep mentioning that they have no good third gens to publish, even if they wanted to. Personally i think you should send em some pics of your bad-boy and let em drool a bit. Show em that even us rust-belt owners can do it right!

its not lack of third gens but more overdone 67, 68, and 69's that get all the articles. i used to like the old 60's camaros but feel they are more hype then nice.... are there no 70 through 81 camaros either?

He said there were very few miles on the engine in it's rebuilt state. To me it sounded like less than 1,000 miles. maybe as few as 100. It also had a cam put in, though my friend was going to put another one it (idk why). I think he said it has a hurricane (?) intake manifold and he said it's a holley carb. He's looking for $1000 but i think he'll take an offer. Ill get pics soon
$1k is a bit to high for me, but def get me pics still.

I was told if that was a bit high then i could be alittle flexible . He just wants to get 1k for it cause that's what he paid for it, and 4-bolt main professionally built 355's arn't exactly laying around the junkyards yanno?

I'll get pics if my dad gets the mustang outta the way tomorrow

I'll havta ask him. But i know theres a website somewhere around here that lists all the major cruises in Pittsburgh. I just forgot what it is.

I know when he called his buddy with the 69' (built 396 with about the best exhaust note i've ever heard, and paint so nice i physically can't find orange peel.) that he said he'd be back in the neighborhood around 9:30 if he wanted to go, so i'm guessing it's an afternoon cruise?

edit: and yea, i gotcha on that deep pockets thing. I'm still trying to convince my dad it's in our best interests to get Dyno Don to get my name on a set of them headers of his instead of waiting till i need them (and inevitably finding out Don's sold out lol)

Re: PIttsburgh

Judging by this site:
http://www.carcruises.com/cruise_lis...e=Pennsylvania

I'd say he was talking about either the Irwin/North Huntington car cruise, or, more likely, the cruise in Beaver. i mean cmon, 1,000 dash plaques? That beaver cruise should be rocking, and i know i remember going to a "Hot summer night" car cruise last year.

Lol. my dad knew it wouldn't pass. He just tried anyways. He said these engines can sometimes squeak by without a cat, but mine was jsut too worn out to pull it off, so i got a new Magnaflow 3 ID/OD cat and i'm pairing it to a new 3" Hooker Cat-back. hense me trying to get him to let me get my name on Don's list. I want those sexy 1 3/4 headers and 2.5 pipes.

Lol. My cars an 89 so i still havta pass i think. Maybe classic plates are available for it though, i can't remember. I wouldn't register it as a classic though because i'm going to be driving it too much. Plus, my dad already challenged me to a race around Beaver Run and the drag strip. 82 GT with dynomax catback vs 89 Iroc with Frankenstein exhaust. Who will win!!!

but seriously, have you seen Don's stuff? It's amazing. Go check out the exhaust board or his profile.

but i'm off for tonight. ill get that cruise info tomorrow morning.

We're going to the Super Cruise at the old Franklin Mall down in Washington. It's from 12-6. It's their annual really really big cruise. Anyone else able to get down there? We're going later today because I gotta drop a friend off at the airport soon.

I believe its 20 years to be able to get Classics. My car is my daily driver and I have Classic Plates..from what my dad tells me you just have to keep it under 12k. But I dont think it matters when my mileage is exempt to begin with..

I dunno, I just know you get a lot more attention with these plates, good and bad attention.

Nope. The car can only be used as a commuter type car once a week. mileage has to be restricted, the car must appear, in all aspects, stock. and a few other little things.

that means i couldnt put classics on if i wanted to. With the new exhaust, if i start it up, any cop in a 5 block radius will know its not stock

Cops cant/wont/dont want to do anything about you driving your "Classic Car" more than once a week. I drive from Belle Vernon to Pleasant Hils 4x a week for work, I pass many districts and havent had ANY problems so far. I drive her around town as well. They have better things to do, even if they wanted to be a **** they would have to prove they saw you twice in one week, but its just not worth it to them.

Stock? By my vin the car is an S/E which means NO ground effects, the 5% tint on the rear window isnt stock, and my fender vents are mods not stock. Car still passed when I sent in for Classics bud, they either just dont care or dont know a whole lot about cars. As for your exhaust, the 4 pics you would send in wouldnt show its loud, cops may give you a hard time but thats just a given with or without classic plates.

Point taken i guess, but it's already registered as a normal car so whatever.

On a good note, i did save $30 on my cat and cat-back by some nifty usage of summit's "beat-a-price-guarantee". We'll see if it passes tomorrow (Tuesday), though i suspect there will still be 1 or 2 isssues and it won't be ready till Thursday or Friday.

And trust me if I havent had any problems with how loud the system I have in her is, you wont have problems with your exhaust. Bethel/South Park/Baldwin cops can be a pain, but I know most of them from the last two summers.

I wasnt trying to prove you wrong or anything lol, just tryin to get my point across they arent as strict as youd think. I did it cuz its kinda cool to say you have Classic plates, and because they pay for themselves within a few years. I never have to renew them, and can keep that plate for any car that gets accepted to run Classic plates.

What issues do you think itll have that it wont pass?

firstly, I live about 30 second walk from bethel Park. I pick up spare jobs in South park, and i always drive through Lebo (they are bad if you dont know. worse than bethel by far). So there ya go. all the more reason to keep her quiet

and as far as not passing. My dad can't do the inspection tuesday so some random mechanic from his shop has to do it. And my car is without headliner, about 1/2 the interior trim, the interior light, the front grill plate (it's soaking in my sink lol. I'm painting it asap.), the computer is sitting in my passenger seat still all wired up looking like Frankenstein, I still havnt got the spray paint off from when the idiot before me spray bombed the ENTIRE engine/engine bay with silver paint (even the spark plug wires, distributor, etc etc). Though my passenger mirror is fixed .

Oh and my tranny is making some horrid noise. It's gonna go within 2 years i bet. It needs a full rebuild but it's just not worth it to me. When it goes, i'll get my TKO-500.

so take your pick of those issues. Although 1 thing to note, all the interior trim is in my attic lol. INCLUDING, the BRAND NEW headliner i got out of a junkyard for $15. I kid you not. it couldn't have been in the car for more than a month before it got shipped to the junkyard (with the windows and doors closed thank God)

It's not grinding yet. It's just one of the bearings howling like a fiend. It seems to quiet down once it's all warmed up though, so it's OK. And i already have the money for the tranny if it goes (im kinda secretly half hoping it does). After my cat and catback excursion, i have $2700 left to modify/build/fix my car until i'm broke. Then i get to start selling stuff to see how much money i can make . If i'm right, between the 2 engines i can sell, some nice T-tops, various panels, pieces, parts, and crap. Plus alittle birthday/christmas money, and i should have somewhere in the neighborhood of $3500 to play with. At least i think. That all depends on convincing my parents that a paint job is a perfect graduation gift (and substitute for a party), which they actually seem to be going for. Oddly enough they'd rather paint my car then throw a party

Re: PIttsburgh

Hey guys, I was talking to my dad about paint today and he wanted to ask the Pittsburgh 3rd gens a question.

first - Does anyone know of a booth that we could rent out to paint the car?

second - Would anyone out there with more experience painting than us (0 major painting, though we can edge stuff) like to help us paint my car to save money? I can only assume free food/drink would be supplied at the very least. It's just cause i'm on such a tight budget so i don't want to pay a shop all this money to do this work when all i need is a spray. We can do all the body work, prep work, disassembly and reassembly ourselves. We just don't want to mess up the spraying part. So if anyone out there would be willing to help sometime over the next 8 months, could ya let me know??

thanks
~Doug

P.S. the car being sprayed is in my sig, although it's in much better shape now and just so you know, i do do good work, i have just never sprayed before. See how my wheels were? Perfectly stripped, masked, sprayed, polished, and cleared!!

Re: PIttsburgh

Cops cant/wont/dont want to do anything about you driving your "Classic Car" more than once a week. I drive from Belle Vernon to Pleasant Hils 4x a week for work, I pass many districts and havent had ANY problems so far. I drive her around town as well. They have better things to do, even if they wanted to be a **** they would have to prove they saw you twice in one week, but its just not worth it to them.
yep i see ppl with 'classic' cars drive all the time. you can commute once a week with it, but you can take it to shows whenever so just say you were at a car show lol

A guy at my work has a80's C4 with classic plates on it and he drives everyday.

if you just keep the car under 5K a year with regular plates you are emissions exempt so no worries about emissions devices. My situation

Side note im goin to prp tomrorow if all goes well at work and no rain. 11.4's at 118 is what i want

I painted my car last year in my garage at home, came out nice for me and my dad doing it. He has done a few ford fleet trucks for a landscaping business in Bethel, but they never had to be 'perfect' looking. I had/have very few runs in the paint, but they will come out whenever I finally get around to wetsanding it. I plan to respray the ground effects silver tho, and thats where most of the defects were at. I plan on spraying my 85' truck within the next month, bought the primer yesterday. If we decide to spray it down at the garage in Bethel (Because it wont fit in my garage at home lol) you could come over and help/watch if youd like. Ill have no problem helping you with yours, I can do body work fairly well, but Ill leave the spraying up to you or your dad lol.

Knew I wasnt the only one that used a 'Classic' car for daily driving.

Oh, ok lol. Any rust was taken down to bare metal and fiberglassed, and and dents were bondoed but like I said I needed to do very little of that. Just alot of sanding, alot of sanding..lol.

Im supposed to be picking up a tailgate and another part for my truck in West Newton around 5:30 but Ill see what time I get done. Irwin is about 30 mins away from me, I didnt realize it was that close.
