This paint sucks!

I bought the meguires 3 stage crap to see if the paint could be revived and it looked like it worked till I came outside the next day and saw what happened.I wiped it all off afterwards like the instructions say too.I'm pissed but not too much as I am repainting it anyway.I don't know if it's the product or the crappy paint, probably the paint.

It needs the paint soon anyway so I guess it's not a big deal.I almost want to repaint with a flat finish but I love shine too.

Just curious, but can you sand the clear off, wetsand the basecoat and reclear?

I'm asking because the RS I have is missing clear in a few spots and sanding and reclearing would be easy enough for a paint-challenged-sprayed like myself.

You can rough the paint up,getting all the clear off then use the old base(if it's not flaking or cracked) as your foundation and spray on top of that and reclear.Mine isn't a base/clear so I'm just going to sand the old paint and do a base clear like my old 87.You might be able to wet sand the old base but chances are it will need a new base.

UH, NO. The basae coat only provides color, maybe 2 mils thick. The clear coat provides all uv protection for color fadtness, like 4-6 mils thick. you WILL sand through the color no matter how carefull you are. The problem with the late 80's to mid 90's bc/cc systems is the lack of adhesion between coats. If you dont sand all the clear coat off before priming and painting it will come off at some point.

Nice, I'm seriously contemplating doing mine, but im a body man and could not paint it without pulling everything apart and respraying all the jams and engine bay. And lets face it an 89 lo3 just aint worth it.
