All in a days work (engine removal)
Thanks to Eric (Porkyzilla) for driving all the way up here to help pull this motor. Our goal was to have the motor pulled and diagnosed by the end of the night. The only hiccup was that the cheap last minute hoist I bought from Kragen was garbage. The boom wasn't long enough and the main post was hitting the tip of the bumper and the boom started bowing. After a few calls to Kragen and Eric almost going down there and slapping the guy we ended up having to drive to Summit to buy another hoist as all the parts stores were closing early for Sunday or didn't have a different hoist. After getting home and puting the new hoist together in 10 miutes we were able to get the engine out. We found that the knock was coming from the #8 piston rod was the culprit. There were metal shavings everywhere. We also found that the timing chain had a lot of play in it, almost a full tooth! It was a long night and I didn't get to bed till 3am and poor Eric had to drive home still. I am very greatful for the help. Here are some progress pics.

You guys are savages, good job.
Kudos to Eric for helping out yet another fellow 3rd genner.
This guy is not afraid to spend endless hours getting tore up on somebody elses project, when I'm sure he has work to do on his own.

very nice car steve 1K is a steal for her.
like steve said the #8 connecting rod bearing was shot you could feel the play. the other bearings were on the way out. and the timing chain had slack for upto 2 teeth probably was defiintly worn out.
like i said ill come back up and well put that new motor in no problem....not too bad of a drive only 1/2 a tank in grandma anytime steve.

I am willing to return the favor, to Eric or just to recirculate the kindness to someone else who needs it. If it's on a weekend I can help.

I knew we would have it done. I've done a few of these motors. These are easy motors, I was just surprized that you were going to stay till it was ripped apart. I thought you were going to go home after it was out of the car.
Oh, by the way, I returned the hoist the next day fully assembled at the other Kragen. They had NO problem doing it.

well i video taped it but i don't have usb connection on my videocamera so im gonna video tape it on my neighbor camera. but the car idles awesome. definatly hear the lope. right now the car is overheating. the engine gets hot, but the thermostat housing is cool to the touch so coolant isn't flowing. WE gonna start the car up tomorrow morning when the engine is cold. I try to upload pics asap. i'll post a new thread with my swap.

My heads went out today so I'll have them next week. Anybody have a 3200 stall they want to sell? I should be hiting low 12's/high 11's for the Norcal/Socal meet!

There are a couple of brass air bleeds on the top of the motor. Open them up and let the air out. Your overheating issue should be gone unless you forgot the water pump drive.
PM me if you still have problems!!
