fuel pump upgrade
As I mentioned in another topic, my fuel pump died and marc is doing a standup job taking care of me, so far I have decided to go to an external aeromotive setup. running a bulkhead fitting out the bottom of my tank, to a filter then pump and of coarse up to the engine all in 5/8 or -10 line. and splits to my fuel rails each getting its own 3/8 line. I will not have fuel starvation anymore.
my old pump was a walbro 255, maybe 3months use on it but installed for 2+ years. just started stumbling the other week and we installed a fuel pressure gauge and now only pulls 25~ psi at the fuel rail. lame.
$542.26 in parts later... but i know marc will take care of me on the labor side

I have heard nothing but bad lately about walbro, just disappointing. And I know marc will take care of you. We need to get together in the next few weeks, I will help you with your hood, and you can teach me tuning basics.

In my line of business, people really dont like to hear what I have to tell them, but I have found that when a car drives away...its fixed right.
Bennie & I both agree that the Walbro fuel pump is a good upgrade for a stock to mild performance engine, not an 383 w/ a F1 Supercharger!

Hm, I wonder if the internal pressure relief valve failed or what.
I've read not so good things about Aeromotive pumps on the street, something about overheating after prolonged use. But your engine can definitely use the extra fuel volume.
So are you guys just welding a fitting to the bottom of the tank, or welding in a sump, or what?

I'm sure it's just an in-tank fuel pump of some sort.
Remember that generally a supercharged car requires more fuel per hp than a naturally aspirated one. A supercharged car with 500hp will likely have a higher fuel requirement than a C6 Z06, for example.
Personally, I'm going to be running dual in-tank Walbros. It's a proven setup on forced induction cars up to very high power levels. 03/04 Cobras have factory dual pump systems. Plenty of LT1 and LS1 guys run dual Walbros to feed their supercharged/turbocharged engines, even with stock lines. Good enough for me.

thats what I pondered but I dont know what that entails and how much more it will cost.
aeromotive sounds much simpler. a co worker runs one on his chevelle with ls2,and its been going for 2 years now.
no, ls7 is 505hp N/A
zr1 is 6.2liter supercharged.

The Aeromotive is by no means a bad choice. Plenty of fast cars run them with good results. Plus having that huge blingy fuel pump is always good, I guess. I'm staying away from them due to cost, and because they are really really loud.
And I know nothing about the ZR1 but I bet it has dual staged fuel pumps.

For how much power? First of all, for efi, since we are talking high pressure, a -8 (or 1/2") line will feed north of 1000hp. It's a different story with old school carb setups running much lower pressure. In my opinion -10 is way overkill. For my car, since I'm looking at 600-700hp (600rwhp or so, hopefully), I think -6 lines are sufficient, but if I run into issues at higher RPM/boost levels I could run a -8 feed and use the stock feed as a return.
You can run a 2nd pump right next to your existing pump, many guys have used hose clamps to hold them onto the fuel module assy. The 2nd pump would be wired to its own relay with a Hobbs switch which would provide ground to the relay at a predetermined boost level and supply the extra fuel volume. When not needed, you're just running on the single pump. Fuel won't back flow through the 2nd pump when not in use because they have internal check valves.
Yet another option is dual external Walbros like this: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/forced...stock-pcm.html which shows the capability of the 255lph pumps.
And I would run the feed line, to a high flow fuel filter, to a Y in the engine bay, to feed the rails in parallel, and then run both lines from the rails to a regulator. That's what you should do anyway, no matter what pump setup you run, Aeromotive, Walbro, etc.

Here's a long thread about home-built dual in-tank pump setups, LT1 mostly but still relevant. I understand that the opening on a 3rdgen tank is smaller so you may have to remove the sending unit arm and install it once the assembly is in the tank.

Batch fire/sequential fire doesn't affect the fueling requirements of the engine. Sequential allows better efficiency at idle/cruise for emissions and MPG, and some systems allow individual cylinder tuning, which can be helpful. Yes, when you have an entire bank of injectors opening at once, in batch fire systems, that means you are going to get larger fluctuations in the fuel rail pressure than with seq, but that doesn't seem to matter to the seemingly hundreds of batch fire LT1 cars with dual in tank pumps, on forced induction cars.
Well, I agree with you here. You are one of the few here that seems to know more than the average joe(no offense to anyone). However, I was referring to Trav's car, a 383 and a fat SC. It has a SINGLE 255lph with stock lines and batchfire. BF or SFI, the fuel supply won't cut it in this set up.

Interesting, I wonder if that's because single pumps back in the day weren't up to the task to flow the fuel needed for the ZR1's power. Now I'm curious how those were set up, so I'll have to look into that sometime.
Yes, he's going to need some upgrades. No way will a single pump do it. Some have gotten away with using a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump to increase pump voltage under boost. There's a 10 second turbo Formula on here using that setup, and more than a few 4thgens. I'm not really a fan, though.
So you have a parallel fuel system that you switch on at the track, I assume for nitrous? Do you turn off the stock in-tank pump when the bigger pump is in use?

I hope Walbro hasn't gone done hill, I'm about to purchase a bigger pump for the S4 and Walbro is one of the pumps that everybody is using. My RS4 turbos and inlets will be here tomorrow and once finished will be in the 420-440 awhp range. I'm going light on the tune until I get injectors and maf.
You're hoping for low 11's high 10's Travis? Around 800hp?

I'm gutting my precats and relocating my rear o2's behind the main cats for free. That's what most of the tuning shops do unless you wanna pay 600 for a custom set for the same gain. I'll be stage 3- for a little while until I get the injectors,fuel pump, RS4 maf, and full stage 3 tune. I also want to upgrade the torque converter and valve body before I go full stage 3. I'm doing a custom exhaust with a magnaflow muffler or an AWE twin 1 exhaust.
I have to pull the motor and tranny to get to the turbos.
