Catch of the day

L98 heads! $50. Also did an oil change. Had to mutilate my damn filter to get it off by sticking a screwdriver in the side and cranking it off. I swear I didn't over tighten it...not sure why that happens.

Nice score. I may have a bare set of those laying around somewhere, I ought to dig them out and check the casting numbers. On your oil filters, do you lubricate the rubber o-ring with oil before installing? Putting a thin coat of oil or wd-40 on that seal (just enough to make it wet) will usually keep that from happening.

And you still have them seize up? That's odd, how long between changes, and what type of filters do you use? Beyond cheap filters or going too long between changes, you got me.

I'm pretty sure they carry a core value around $50 each. Sooner or later someone will always be willing to pay.

I don't know, but I've had a complete L98, that I will never use, for a long time. So.... you buy L98 heads for $50, then spend money freshening them up... and then you have heads that don't flow very well, and have an ancient chamber design. Why?

If you have a better alternative for me for the price, I'd love to hear it.

I don't think I was a member yet, or I just missed it. Sorry. Yes the port design is old, but with a little massaging on the ports from a good machine shop, a little valve work, and some descent parts, you ought to have a descent set of heads for less than $500. I know you can't get cheaper than that with aftermarket heads, and by then they ought to flow great.
