New direction
Ok well, some may flame but oh well. It is something my boys and I decided on. I lost motivation with this car completely but my sons love it, I still do too but you know how that goes. When they heard I was trying to sell it, they got upset and begged me to keep it. Zack, my 6 year old said he wanted to keep it and fix it with me. That made me proud and a little misty eyed to be honest. He's at that age where he thinks dad is awesome and wants to spend time with me. Now, he is in love with knight rider, he stole my seasons on dvd and they are now in his room. He wants to make it like KITT, I said KARR so we'll see. I loved knight rider as a kid but now, don't really love the way stock KITT looks. I told him we could do it but with some changes, a little more modern. Now, I'm not positive if we'll do the dash, most likely since he loves it but that will be the last part of it. This will be a long time build, once we sell our house we stand to make a huge profit so that will finish the car. It will get an LS6, after driving the S4, he definately wants boost which is ok by me so I'm thinking turbo, possibly twin. He makes engine and bov sounds when riding his bike, my almost 4 year old now does the same thing and wants to help fix the car I think it will get an air ride system too. I will pick either 18 or 19" matte black mesh style wheel. Kind of this look but keeping the stock formula hood. Probably keep the stock wing too.
I know some will flame but please keep it to yourself. It's something they really want to do with me and it will be a blast spending that time with my guys.

Trust me on this Steve, working on the car with your father as a youngster is something they will remember and cherish for the rest of their lives. Even if you guys only work on the project here and there, the joy of working on something they and their dad love is priceless. Good for you Steve

So are you moving again? If so, where to?

Re: New direction
My 3 year old is always hanging out with me. The other day I was buffing out my new hood and he went over to the toolbox and got the correct size wrench and removed all the bump stops from the hood I was working on. It was a proud moment.
I used to watch Knight Rider too, and Dukes of Hazard, and BJ & the Bear. Lets not forget Smokey & the Bandit.

Considering I have the awesome blue scanner light on the front of my GTA, you know I wouldn't flame! haha.
I'm just glad something was able to motivate you to keep it! You've got the perfect body style in that Formula for it.

Re: New direction
Having the kids help with a project can be both rewarding and a pain. sometimes you need the small hands, just recently I was running the power wire for a subwoofer in the 83 and I could not get my hand in the fender to grab the wire. My 12 year old said "Daddy can I help" she reached right in and had the wire in no time. Lena has been "helping" me for years. the funniest is when she has a black line running straight up her nose and still tries to deny picking it.
Anyway have fun, enjoy the time, but stay safe.

the thing about cars is. we all own our own car and are entitled to do whatever we want, because that is what it's all about. Go for it man, and enjoy

Re: New direction
That is time well spent with little replicas of you.. Make the most of it. They will be overjoyed and super proud to be riding in the car they built with their father, plus its a television classic. The boys will never love anything more than these memories you are going to make with them... Plus Knight Rider is what got me into 3rd Gens.

Re: New direction
Hey what a small world, I actually found this post on a semi-related google search and noticed you lived in Gardnerville. I live in the Ranchos myself.
I'm in the process of building a KITT out of an 82 Trans Am. As of right now I've completed the external conversion and am looking at getting after the inside; custom dash, etc including an 'artificial intelligence' which I'm building so that you'll be able to have a conversation with him.
It'd be cool if we could compare notes or something! I'd be happy to help if you're really serious about converting yours
Good reason for me to post, anyway, I've been lurking here for months searching through old threads in an attempt to get the Crossfire setup in mine running right. Runs like a champ thanks to the hoards of knowledge and articles on this site.

I have to agree, it's a great project to put together with your son. I worked on cars and trucks with my dad as a kid, learned to do bodywork and mechanical stuff; all of which has proved to be invaluable. My dad and I still get together and work on car projects, it's kept us very close.
Matt Cripe at A-1 Restorations in Gardnerville did the paint. It took about a month and a half, but he's a perfectionist and charged me less than half of what other body shops quoted me.
