Re: Smog Help Asap

Any mods? Recent tune up parts? Normally a new cat and egr valve can solve your problem. But that's only if its a simple issue. Your best bet would be to have it diagnosed by a certified tech.

high hydrocarbons is unburnt fuel. sure you got a good tuneup on there? I see your in the bay. I am sure thier are some good Smog test and repair stations that can get you going.

Re: Smog Help Asap

Dont hear/feel the car misfiring or anything? car seems to run good? If you wanna go to Rocklin he does smog and repairs. Rocklin Automotive the owner is a member here goes by the name 3rdbird aka Marc. Check in with him. Other than that its hard to say.

Re: Smog Help Asap

I would call over to a guy named Bennie. He is also here in this forum. He is a certified smog tech and owns his own repair shop in Elk Grove, a bit closer for you than goin to Rocklin, although Marc does good work also. His number is 916.214.7886. Call both of them and see if they can lead u in the right direction to get it taken care of. Let us know what they say... Good luck

Re: Smog Help Asap

I spoke to Tha89rocfast today. HC's are measured in PPM (parts per million). There is also CO, and Nox to take into consideration too! It all plays into the overall test.

We have set an appt for ya next thursday. We'll get ya fixed asap.

Bennie is good too, but according to Del, "quality takes time".

At Rocklin Automotive, you're a priority as soon as you arrive, and yes I know you're coming in from the Bay Area.

HC's are basically unburned fuel. I would double check the "tune up" especially if it has a "newer" cat converter. Otherwise we'll see ya Thursday.

So far 2 people agree HC's are unburned fuel, and the tune should be rechecked.

Might also want to perform a HC/CO cranking test, what do you think Undercover89??

Yeah motorcycles are awesome I love it no traffic on the freeway and gas is easy on the pockets. I don't think I could bike everyday maybe at the gym not commuting though. Hopefully my car will be back to making noise.

Re: Smog Help Asap

I failed one time by a large margin. After a little poking around, found that the vacuum line to the EGR valve had come off. Plugged it back in and passed well below the average #'s. Something to check, easily.

Re: Smog Help Asap

Update on my car after looking over my car this weekend I find a busted vacuum line and also a broken spark plug wire I'm glad I didn't just start dumping money in the car in other areas. So I went ahead replaced the wires, cap and rotor and coil all MSD. The car is running so smooth and putting out the power I expect back to the smog shop next day off.

Okay So I scan my smog results onto here so everyone can see them and chime in on them. Also I did a check on my EGR valve today it isn't holding 10 psi of pressure when I start the car. Also its leaking as I put air in while its running. Time for a new EGR you guys I think.

Re: Smog Help Asap

The Egr is part of the emissions system of the car and it's not working at all? Theres no change in idle when you add pressure to the valve. Thats how my manual describes the egr and the problems it causr if not working. Rough idle, hesitation, stalling etc.

Re: Smog Help Asap

You have to test it with the motor off and a vacuum pump like a mity vac and see if it holds vacuum,or with it running push up on the egr diafram if the ldle changes the egr is maybe good.

It needs a converter, high #'s across the board. the NOx didnt fail by much. A new good cat should take care of all that. well take care of it enough to pass. but it may still have a problem.

I am glad I don't have to get my car smogged here while I live here! Thank god it's registered in NJ! They do have smog laws there but since I'm not there anymore I don't have to follow the rules!
