The first of my two major projects for the T/A

Blew the stock 2.73 gears in my car a week and a half ago (after going to the track 2 weeks ago). After looking and looking, I finally found and picked up a 3.23 rear end out of an LS1 car ('98 Trans Am convertible) with 54k miles.

Anyways, its got all the brake parts, and some rusted 12" rotors, so I'm going to buy some new $14 rotors at Autozone.

While I'm going to have the rear-end off my car, Tim recommended that I put a new fuel pump in, and sure enough, the day after he said that, I found a deal on another forum for a couple Walbro 255lph fuel pumps, so I grabbed those. Also decided I should get an adj. prop. valve...so I did.

Oh, and I bought some new GR-2s and Gas-A-Justs the other day as well..just waiting for them to come in.

Now, I'm waiting for my fuel pump and adj. prop. valve to come in before I can swap the rear ends and everything, but its going to be sweet once I get the new stuff in.

3.23s vs 2.73s, adjustable 12" disc brakes vs. drum brakes, new fuel pump, Gas-A-Justs vs. stock 80k mile originals, etc. Its going to be a whole new car!

At the same time, I'll also be putting on new drilled/slotted rotors up front, carbon metallic pads (might return them for ceramic though), and new calipers. Might as well put the GR-2s in then as well, along with the wonderbar that should be coming in soon also.

All of these fun parts, and hopefully if everything comes in this week, it'll be driveable in 5 days or so! I've been dying without my T/A for the last week and a half so far. More info on the other project tomorrow

Hey dean, wish i was going to be around to help you out. You are making the right choice changing the pump since you all most have it out anyways. The only trick you need to knowis this: Get that rear high, the higher the better. Give yourself plenty of room to get that tank out of there. It will make you life much easier.

Keep me posted, when you working the pool again?

I would recommend the pump swap as well. Tim helped me do mine and once the rear end is out of the way its not that bad. Gettign the tank out isnt that bad really. I have 323 gears , youll like the differance. Good luck

Dean, if you can swing it, you might as well pick up some Energy Suspension sway bar endlinks. Damn they make SUCH a difference over stock ones.

Course, most of us have rotted bushings out back so new ones are a huge difference.

I've got the KYB GR-2s up front, and Gas-a-just shocks out back and I'm really happy with the ride. Very nice shocks for the money.

Yep, sure did. Great guy to deal with. Got a steal on it too...$225 for a '98 LS1 rear with all the brakes and everything with a 3.23 posi with 54k miles. Drove there Sunday afternoon with my dad and the minivan, about a 2 hour drive, not too bad.

Yep, already have them on the rear. And yes, it is AMAZING. I put up a post in the suspension board a few weeks ago when I did it. By far, the best $15 I've ever spent on a car. I have the bushings for the front bar as well, just not installed yet. I want to get the poly mounts as well to go along with the endlinks, and I just found out Autozone can order them from ES for me, so I might have them do that one of these days. Probably my next paycheck.

My GR-2s and Gas-A-Justs just arrived today and look a little more banged up than they did in the photos, but at least I can tell they are very new.

Yeah, I decided I might as well do it since I had just gotten paid and the rear end I found was a lot cheaper than I had budgeted for so I figured I might as well spring for the pump. I can't wait to feel the difference with the 3.23s. My only problem is the speedo. I have VSS, so what do I have to do to get my speedo to work right? I want to get taht fixed before I drive it so my mileage is accurate as well.

Should I stay with carbon metallic, or should I do an even exchange for ceramic pads? I'm not a big fan of brake dust, but is there any disadvantages to the ceramic pads? I bought the carbon metallic pads because I didn't know they had ceramic ones available as well. I'd like to avoid buying brakes online because I don't want to wait for any more parts to come in.

Also, I may be buying some LCA re-location brackets as well to weld on before we put the rear on.

I went to buy that rear end from him and when i got there it was all ready to go but it still had the the brakes and everything on there and i didnt need them so insted of just pulling them off he just gave me a rear end out of a 99 camaro SS with a 3.42 gear and only 30,000 miles on the rear end for the same price. that really made my day and everything worked great
