it's not that hard. spend a day at it and be done. drop the rear shocks and watch the brake line and it'll drop far enough. don't forget to unattach the screws that hold in the piece around the gas tank

Do I have to disconnect the shocks?

yup it's VERY VERY time consuming, get that car WAY into the air, but you'll do it no problem. don't forget PB blaster on all the bolts twice a day for a week before diassembly to help out with stuff breaking loose

With 2 people i have done them in about 3 hours start to finish. Not too bad, getting the car high enough is the key to an easy job.

They take 3-4 hours not trying very hard.
Doesnt make a difference in the driveway on jackstands or using a lift.
Get the car up high and securely on 4 jackstands.
Unbolt the rear tires.
Unbolt the brake/fuel line cluster running up the drvr side of the tunnel all the way under the drvr seat.(gets that extra clearance to swing it out of your way.
Unbolt sway bar and panhard bar.
Unbolt shocks and use jack to lower rear end down far enough without dropping it out of the car :-)
Remove exhaust(unbolt at cat and shove it out over the pass disc)
Remove heat shields.
Unbolt tank
To remove tank it will need to be at about a 45 deg angle to the ground and you have to roll it towards you as you slide it out to clear the filler neck(dont beat on the filler neck or use excessive force, it will crack)
Replace pump(carefule of sending unit)
reverse and drive
Helps if u run it out or siphon the tank out, 20+ sloshing pounds of gas sucks to maneuver.
later

these tips came at just the right time. I'm going to be upgrading my fuel pump soon. Anyone have any experience with the walbro pump kit from racetronix?

walbro pumps are nice and the racetronix seems to be a pretty sweet setup as well.

Shop for a Walbro.
Dont waste time buying it under any other name, u just pay more to get a repackaged Walbro.
Racetronix seems to have decent prices on them
