FYI

Just to let everyone know, Mark hasn't officially adopted the design, I just kinda threw it out there.

I'll add the location and remove my "abubaca" sig when the time comes.

cough...GREENSBORO...cough.

Nah, I don't want it in my backyard, I want to at least have to drive a "little" ways!!!

One minor suggestion...

The yellow IROC next to a large yellow sun, it's just a little too much yellow in one spot....

Just my .02

Nice...I liked this years logo but it had no camaros or birds on it. Most people have no idea what a thirdgen is.

I gonna order a shirt now that I think of it. I want one to wear and one to keep

Well....... whats the reason for the mountainous terrain? How about the large sun or san serif fonts? The gradations in your car on top don't seem to have any continuity to the rest of the cars. Color scheme at all....analogous...double compliments..?? Other than that its a good first solution although my eyes are having trouble following any kind of heirarchy going on the the piece. Might I suggest keeping the font choices similar as to keep a sense of order between where to read next. The Font on the bottom seems to dance yet the "2004" and "Thirdgen" seem so set and strict. It really seperates. The firebirds have a larger place and seem to hold more importance? Any reason? I like how you used terrains and the night and day scheme to seperate the camaros and the birds though. Very interesting approach. Not downing your idea, just a little crit. You've obviously got a lot of experience in Design. How long?
Thanks,
Brian

that rock deflector I believe is the air dam, what helpswith cooling, the Camaro ones are a bit different so I could be wrong

No4NJunk:

I'll assume you're genuinely curious, and that you're not just being a P.I.T.A.

Right off the bat, yes, the WHITE T/A needs some work. First of all it does look a little silver. OK, now it's silver, that issue solved. The air deflector/dam is a little big, and the wheel kinda frumpy....I agree. It IS art though, it'll never be 100% perfect.

The Ponchos are centered, but the Bowties are on TOP. I think everyone will have a different opinion as to which is more prominent. I'm a bowtie guy.

Why the mountains? ...Well, why the city? Why not?

The big sun? To create a visual triangle between the sun and the 2 Rocs. The other triangles are the 2 ponchos coming starting together and seeming to split in different directions, and the 2 flags and the "nationals". Visual triangles are...well trust me, it would look bad without them.

The san seriff fonts? 2 reasons. First, i like'em. Second, they have a thicker stroke (typically), so as to allow more color in the letter.

As for the text being different, and the general overcomplication of the design? Done on purpose. I make/sell/design signs all day long. The most important thing you can do is to realize just how the sign is being used. Don't even bother doin' a layout until you know. If you're gonna sell Hotdogs for a buck on sundays, you better be sure you're sign is readable, and people will notice it, or else the sign is worthless. This design is not to actaully give information, but rather to throw out a "eyecatching" design. Be LOUD!!! Be OBNOXIOUS!!! That is the point. If someone misses a detail, no biggie, but overall, it'll certainly get noticed!

As far as which words to read first? Start at the top left....then read to your right. At the end of the line, drop down to the next line and start over on the left again. (kinda like a book).

No, it's never gonna be perfect. I may touch up that TA a bit, but other than that, it's gonna stay how it is. Good questions though.

LOL. Yes I was being genuinely curious. I was just having a hard time with some of the approaches. As for how to read the type....yes that was obvious but don't you think it would read easier with the titles slanted down and to the right instead of down and to the left, seeing as how we naturally decifer hardcopy from left to right. Your right about triangulating the piece. Ever thought of free-form though. I like grids but sometimes they become over intrusive. The logo is definitely eye catching which as you stated is something you were shooting for.

Do you use Illustrator or freehand?

BTW- Old school metallica kicks ***!

Illustrator, self taught.

...and yeah, I was only kidding about the how to read, I was hoping you wouldn't take that wrong. I had originaly had the the "thirdgen" going across the entire width, no bird/badge logo. That was fundamentally better, but It was just kinda flat. I do think the 2004 is a little big too. I specifically wanted to seperate the "nationals" from the "thirdgen". Kinda like a question, "thirdgen what?" ...thirdgen NATIONALS. With the 2004 so big, it kinda implies a statement. 2004 THIRDGEN.....and the "nationals" kinda is left floating. I think shrinking the 2004 would be better than keeping the nationals in the same block print....

...but alas, I've learned over the years that there are some minor details to be corrected (the TA), but in the end, it'll never be perfect and both the artist and the consumer sometimes need to be happy with what comes out. I could re-draw and re-draw for days, and it would always be wrong in some way shape or form. A lot of time after redoing art over and over, a customer will end up chosing the very first desing anyway.

...it's almost impossible to see at that resolution, but the outer most pass. side exhaust tip isn't there on the yellow ROC.

True. I love illustrator. I'm a Graphic Designer. I'm in my third year at Winthrop University but I do side work. I love it. Its just as much a hobby as cars. I know what you mean about the first one is sometimes the one the consumer goes for anyway. The Professors here push and push and push untill your **** bleeding for ideas! So I'm always looking for new inventions. Anyway I think its cool you've taken the initiative to do this. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the nice words.

G O D, could be offensive, although not how you used it. Some people are really cranky.

As for the critique? If you're refering to No4nJunk, he had some genuine points to make. As a fellow graphic artist, I appreciate his comments. I thought he was being a PITA at first too, but as you can see, we discussed it, and it was productive. No harm, No foul.

.....Again, thanks for the kind words!

That logo looks GREAT!

I looked at getting this years shirt but b/c there were no cars it wasn't obvious. Most people have no idea what a thirdgen is.

I guess it could be a group of guys with III after their name and TREY for a nickname...

Greensboro would be GREAT!

Great design !!!! Looks like an attention getter.

I have just one small suggestion though. Why not put a
Camaro along with the firebird on the bottom. That way
it looks like they are equally important. On the top, use
the Camaro front and firebird rear.

It would look more balanced, and would not look like you
were favoring Firebirds as the center of the logo.

All in all, I think it's colorful and well designed.

Good Job !
