Track help: Auto launch RPMs
I went to the track yesterday and i was comparing those times to some previous times and heres my question:
The last time i went to the track i ran a best of 15.294 @ 88.44MPH with 2.182 60'
Yesterday i ran a best of 15.336 @ 88.13MPH with a 2.132 60'.
I noticed that yesterday my 60' time was .05 better than previously but i ran a slower ET and MPH, also, even though my previous 60' time was .05 seconds slower, i was able to pull a faster 330' time (6.277 previously, 6.230 yesterday). Yesterday i had no traction problems, i am assuming that i need to be launching at a higher RPM (have been starting from idle-600RPMs). I have an auto with the mods in my sig. Next time i go to the track i plan on removing my endlinks to help some weight distribution., also, i have been shifting manually at about 5000-5250 RPMs.
My question is, what RPMs do you think i should be launching at, and what, if any, have been your experiences and gains from a higher starting RPM, and how do you think i would gain. I am trying to find a way to get at least a 90MPH trap with a 15.0x ET and i think this could help alot. Also, any other ideas to reducing my times.
THANK YOU!!!!

get that 60 foot to like 1.9 you should hit 14's...
thats one quick 305 tbi!!
great job..
i usually just slam the tranny in first and do a full stock shall and get on the pedal about half way..
good tires is always to go have also..

launch rpm really comes down to what teh car wants. with a stock convertor i always got my best times by jsut flooring it from an idle, it was not teh most consistant way to do it, but it was teh quickest. the most consistant way to leave teh line woudl most likely be to stall it up as high as you can without spinng teh rears or pushign through the brakes.

With a stock converter coming up on the brake may not help. If the car has no traction issues I say just launch from idle. If you bring the RPMs up you may bog the car down which is what happened when I had my auto and DRs. Try different techniques next time.
Also remember that track conditions and weather affect the time.

Flashing is when you don't footbrake it and just sit at idle. When the light comes hit the gas and the converter will flash to a certain RPM before the car moves. I don't know if this will work with a stock converter though, but hey anything is worth a try.

I thought it was when you used the brake and added very light throttle until you felt some force. Usually just a couple hundred rpms more with a stock convertor? Or I could be wrong.
