dump the clutch about 3000-3500 rpms you should be good. maybe lower if you got some gears in the rear.

it just takes time and practice. if it's spinning on one tire back the car up about 20 feet and creep forward about 10 feet then try again. it will reset the cariage in the posi. you'll know if the assend starts to throw out to the right.

with semi decent tires slipping the clutch at around 3500 will work good, ur u can go easy on the gas. practice, get to know the car and try differnt things with it find out what works and what doesnt. no technique is good with out good tires.

I have a 5-speed in my Mustang and let me tell you it takes time to see what your combo likes. I usually bring it to 2500 and let it out like a stop light. Even though I have not to great 60's, they are okay and consistent. Just keep working on it and you will find what your car likes!

Oh yeah with the ET Streets, I dump at 4500 and pulled a 1.84 60' to then miss a shift!

Good luck!

You will probably find that slipping the clutch will work better then dumping the clutch. If you dump the clutch you are probably going to have tire spin. If you want to practice alittle before going to the track go on an empty road or parking lot and try launching the car. That's what seem to work best for me. If you are going to be running an ET street or slick just rev it to 4500-5000 and pop the clutch and hope nothing breaks. Good Luck

With my 4-speed and street tires I launch by holding my line lock so I can preload the clutch a little so that the tires don't get shocked(and all of the drivetrain for that matter)and just spin. I have pulled some respectable R/Ts using this method(.520-.590) and okay 60ft times(2.24 or so) considering I have 235 Bfg Radials with 35psi. Now the real test will come when I finalyl get my Tremec TKO in(car is apart now) and my Nitto Drag Radials on....then if I can't get a 1.8 60ft time I'm gonna be pissed.

With street tires I really had to baby it out of the hole and couldn't drop the clutch at anything above 1,800 or so or else it would just spin(first time at the track=3.0 60ft time....yes I didn't know they counted that high).

I had a Mustang LX that I used to race and I ran my best times by leaving just off idle with Nitto drag radials. Mods were pulleys, exhaust, k&n and SSM lift bars and got several 1.8 60ft.

Here's what I used to do. Practice on the street. You'll get the feel of the car, clutch, tires, etc. You need to learn how to come off the clutch fast and get on the gas, basically fast feet. Once you think you have it, go to the track. Do the exact same thing.

You'll have to modify your technique a little for the better traction but its basically the same thing.

I was cutting 1.7x short times on Nitto Drag Radials the year I sold my car. Never broke a rear because it was almost like launching an automatic car it was so soft.

Good luck

ok when you get the tpi on it this is a way ive found that works best for me...

305 tpi with 3.42 gears...

all this talk about dumping at 3500 will do nothing but spin the tires toooo much...and feathering the clutch out at 3,200 or w/e...

for the "dumping"

hold the rpms at 1,800-2,200...when you launch sidestep the clutch and give it just enough gas to keep the tirres spinning slightly while the car moves forward....
this takes some practice...what you wanna do is drop the clutch and as the ground speed picks up, give it just enough to keep the tires spining...get to the tree or a little past it and hammer it..
the rpms...will jump up to 5 grand or so and hang there...wait 2 seconds then pound second....
i did this and got a 1.966 on street tires..

the feather

hold the rpms at 2,400-2,800....when you launch keep the rpms up and bring the clutch out fast...give it enough gas to break the tires loose...again not smoking htem away, but just enough to get them spinning...slightly!....
what you wanna do is bring the cluth out as fast as possible without boggin the motor...and enough to get the tires moving without burning them up...feather the clutch out while the tires are slightly spinning..by the time you get to the tree the clutch should be out...and your foot on the floor...
did this and got a 1.98

father the clutch out feels faster...but when you dump it your not playing with the clutch......i prefer dumping it..

all that is for street tires...not drag radials..

Yeah, just get the feel of your car.
Now, heres a tuffy.
How do you launch a L98 with a T5? With 3.42's.
Yeah, there no dropping it a 3k there.
Unless you plan on beating the other driver but putting up a smoke screen.

I launch my 84 everytime with a 4500 dump on Nitto DR's. I do however have a WC T-5 out of a 91 Formy and Richmond 4.10 gears. Ran the times in my sig with 123,000 miles on it, bone stock except for the gears.
