1st trip to the track w/the new motor
well the nite was a bummer and fun also. heres what happened, i'm in the staging lanes just about to pull into the waterbox when the car dies. my friends help push it to the pits. problem--the battery decided to take a crap on me. so i get the car running and make a pass but because of the beat battery the msd box doe'st work and i'm losing power as i go down the track. i now have a new battery and i'll be back to the track next week anyway it ran a 10.89@126.73 which still is was good for losing power. next week gaurentee a low 10

Too bad the battery crapped out at the track. But you know you will be faster with a good battery next week. Those MSD's take power. I left my key on one time and found out how quick they can drain a battery.

That's why I still use an alternator and have 2 batteries. I have too many things that need a good voltage supply.

i have an low mount alternator. i just didn't realise my battery was almost 5 yrs old.
i hardly ever drive the car on the street other than in my neighborhood to some friends house.
and track prep on weds. is just o.k. nothing great. i don't seem to have a problem hooking. but their are alot of people who don't care for their prep

thanks guys,
hey slow84z, where did you get those prices from? i would have bought from you instead
heres their pagehttp://www.shafiroff.com/434_595_engine.asp you see you get a 595hp engine less carb and dist. for 8999, but see the * after the 595hp read that! with all the options i got 1095 carb, callies dragonslayer crank, stud girdle, lunati rods, sfi harmonic balancer, ati sfi flexplate, plus the ss cam package all came to 12,500. i used my own distributor just had them install and tune it
the heads are ported afr227 and the block is a motown. i didn't discuss the dart block cause the motown was what i wanted.
it's the ultra street ss package suppose to be 625hp but mine dyn'ed @ 654 so i got almost 30 free hp
thanks again guys be back with some new times on weds. nite

Says 675 hp there for 8995 less carb and ignition. I missed that less carb and ignition part, ouch.
Do you know how to build engines baddest305 or did you just choose to rather have someone else ddo it?

slow84z, the engine your looking at is the sportsman series.
the one i got is the ultra street version. and yes between my son and i we could build any motor but i priced everything out and believe it or not it was cheaper to have it built then to do it myself. plus no time wasted at damn machine shops!!

Who installed it shafiroff? Did they tune it as well. Wow 12 grand really isn't a bad price for what you got. I know some of those ultralight cranks and rotating assembly parts can be really expensive.
Just to give you americans an idea of what it cost us north of the border for that type of motor.
12 500 us = 17 750 can
nice EH! haha

i think where the cost difference lies is in the machining
the parts would be the same from various vendors but i talked to some guys from new york new jersey area and there machine work prices are crazy high where i am from in pittsbugh the prices are about one third of theres up there
