chad.....why are you running such huge heads on a 355(small motor) with such a small cam??? that combo can't possibly run as well as it's potential. I'm running a similar cam in my 305....because I needed a big cam for it. Now i'm not running huge heads and it works for what i'm doing

you need to up the cam, or do something to help it out there. plus a bigger carb would probably help you out on the track as well.

do you think that going with the larger 215 CC compared to 200cc is costing you HP at all?

your losing alot of low end torque that the cam and intake want to produce by using that big of a runner head. we are running the 200cc heads with a holley street dominator intake, a 525" lift solid cam, we should be running 11's this year. haven't gotten the motor totally back together yet...

I am running stock 305 heads (mild porting) with a 750 VS, Torker 2 and Summit 234 duration/.488 lift cam w/1.6 roller rockers on a 305. We have currently run a best of 8.11 @ 85.75 in 1/8th mile.

To improve, we are going to try a 230 duration/.465 lift cam from Crane w/performer RPM air-gap manifold.

Our best 60' time is 1.84. With current set up, it does not appear that there is enough low end to improve 60' time. We have no traction issues, car now hooks well. We had the choice of changing converter to raise stall speed or look for more low end. Since we will be installing a 350 or 383 we elected to try and improve initial torque.

What are your 60' times?

Those heads are giving up a lot of air velocity in the low rpm range there for torque and hp too.You generally want to match
cam total lift to the max flow of the heads for peak performance.
on the other hand most street cars spend very little time in the max flow area.Mid flow since the valves cross this point twice(rising and return) I think has the most influence as far as drivability and useable hp and torque..

i'd go bigger cam to help you out....i like the .525 lift suggestion from mw66nova, although you could go bigger with that 1.6 ratio.

well, i have heard nothing but great things about these heads from all of the hardcore engine builders that i have talked to. if your not making lots of power, then you have something miss-matched. before you go and do another head swap, put in a cam that is suited for the heads. what gears/stall are you running? with those heads i would suggest at least a 3500 stall converter and a 3.73 gear. (assuming you have a 700r4) call comp cams and ask about a custom cam for your combo. spend the money on the phone, then spend your money on your combo once.

90 mph in the 1/8 is really good, I would put more money in the
traction area first. Improve your 60 ft targeting about a 1.8 and
then make a decision after that.

Actually I'm running those heads on my firebird. I'm using a Melling O.E. LT1 grind from 70+ corvettes. 13.03 @ 102.40 with a 1.88 60ft. Not bad for a action+ manifold with a 600 CFM vs holley.

A friend of mine had a 406 with Iron Eagles on it in an all steel 1970 Chevelle and ran a best of 10.96, but consistantly ran 11 teens. It even still had the drum brakes in the front.
