1.9 60' on Nitto's

I was getting 2.0 60's on Eagle F1's, I thought I'd be able to get better short times than this on Nittos. I started the night out with 30 psi in the tires, just trying them out in street trim, launching at 3000. By the end of the night I was down to 24 psi, launching at 3500+ rpm, still only cutting 1.9's. On my best run of 12.8 @ 109.7 my short was 1.95 with a 8.38 @ 86 1/8th. I was getting zero wheel spin as far as I could tell. The only thing I could think of was the fact this is a high mileage clutch, could have been slipping off the line a little more with the stickier tires. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, and my raceweight is 3550 lbs.

Keep lowering the pressure, and varying launch rpm/techniques, you'll get there.

I ran 20-22 in the 245/50/16 NDR's. And 15-17 in the 275/40/17 NDR's.

Do at least a 5 second burnout. Roll right to the line and stage. No dry hops. You'll get there.

Best on the 17's was 1.75 in my 96 6spd WS6 Formula. Best on the 16's was 1.62 in the TTA.

Most of the drag radial slicks no matter what brand work best in the 18-25 range. Since the radial wall construction makes for a stiffer sidewall, you can't run the real low pressures like a real slick. Many of the Stock Eliminator racers are switching to the 30x9 radial slick and run 18-20 psi in them.

Keep lowering pressure 1/2 pound at a time until 60' times stop improving. Since no 2 cars are the same, the pressure that works best in one car doesn't mean it's what your car needs.

Well, it will be this summer before I can head back to the track since I'm back at school now, but I will definitely go with lower pressure when I go back. I had no idea to run that low, but I knew people were getting a lot better than 1.9's with Nittos. By the way, I'm running 275-40-17's. Thanks for the insight.

I'll definitely agree with that. I hate when people do dry hops, it's so pointless. I ran 16" NDR's, and was stickin best with right at 13 lbs. Dunno sounds low, but it was workin for me.

Got another question that I guess is just personal opinion since I've got a bunch of different answers. When I went to the track I'd drive around the burnout box and back into it, spin the tires over to get them wet, pull forward, then proceed with my burnout. Is this fine or should I get them spinning in the burnout box and let it drift forward out of it?

Get them spinning in the burnout box, then drift out of it. That's what it's there for.

since they have treads, they pick up more water anyway... so i never go into the dip where the box is.

instead, i back up to within 6" of it... to where the water gets dragged out of it... that way, theres water under the tires to break them loose, but i dont have any water in my treads, and im not the azehole that drags water onto the starting line.

See, like I said, I've always gotten both answers I'll probably just stick with the way I've done it.

dont forget, we all goto diffrent tracks... so it could just be the setup thats diffrent.

Nothing wrong with dry hops, especially if you have to wait in line all day to get 3 passes down the track and don't want to waste one by launching wrong. Waiting in the staging lanes all day just to spin the tires off the line cause you used too much throttle sucks. That's what dry hops are for.

But when you do a dry hop, you are wasting the sticky you just put on your tires.(suggesting of course you have a DR or otherwise) They cool down fairly quickly. That's the reason I never do dry hops, you are just wasting that good launch. Dunno just my opinion. Like MrDude_1 said, we all go to different tracks, so who knows.

Hotchkis panhard rod and Internet Racing Supply lower control arms.

Stock torque arm, shocks, springs, 3.27 gears, etc. That was with a 3200 Vigilante converter.

When I was running stock everything, I ran two 1.65 short times on Nittos.
