Ran the car on radials Friday night

Well I swapped a 750 speed demon in place of my 650 speed demon and ran the car on friday night on my 275/50/15 Radial T/A's. Car picked up significantly, I think on slicks it would have definately gone into the 12.teens.

RT: .036
60': 1.869
330: 5.133
1/8: 7.889
mph: 89.27
1000': 10.270
1/4: 12.284
mph: 111.85

This is in an 82 Camaro with:

350HO crate engine
XE274 camshaft, mild head porting, valvesprings and a compression bump.

New goal is to break into the 11's on the motor . Valve float is becoming an issue at the top end of the track, i am considering a valve spring swap pretty soon, but i am happy with the results.

You can always throw out those carb formulas on the drag strip. Carb CFM doesn't mean much to a drag engine running at WOT.

I ran an 850 DP Speed Demon on my old 383 stroker. I currently have an 850 DP alcohol carb on my 469 BBC and plan on using 2 850 DP alcohol carbs on my current 469 roller engine project. I'd go with 2-1050 Dominators if I could pick up a couple for cheap.

Right now I'm making about 600 HP and the new engine should make around 850 HP when I'm done. The old 383 made around 450-500 HP.

Slicks should easily get you into the 1.7's if not the 1.6's if you're doing 1.8's on street tires. Medford must have some really good track prep.

They are vortecs that came with the 350HO. MILD port work done to them, stock valves and $40 k-motion valve springs. I am really pleased with the mph!

Launching at 1500 rpm'ish. I have a technique I use since the car has a lot of weight transfer, a little baby launch to get the front end up and rolling into it after that USUALLY will hook. Tires are at 25-30 PSI.

Those are really amazing results out of a low-buck crate engine!!

Had a couple of questions:

Have you ever had it dyno tested to see what it puts out?
Did you port the Vortec heads yourself, or have it done by a shop?
What does the car weigh?

I want one of those engines for my next thirdgen!

Interesting. I was launching at 4000 at 24 psi with no spin.

No dyno testing, by the current mph I would say it is doing 350 at the wheels with no altitude correcting. Car weighs 3025-3050'ish without driver. A friend of mine ported the heads for me .

Sounds a lot like a car i know....... that is in pieces now but for a good cause.

Hook some slicks up to em you'll get the 60ers down to the 1.6's and you'll be on the 11.9's or better like i was. hopefully without punching holes in your trans.

Lucky Bastard i wish my car wieghed 30xx without me

my car is slowly putting on wieght.. The TH400 is definitly more than the 700R was wieght wise.. and that 12 bolt... is much more girthy than the 10 bolt it's replacing...

racing seats will cut like 10lbs out.. but i'm just about out of crap to take out, there's Nothing in it!

guess i'll have to deal with a 3400 race wieght

Less than 3100 lb curb weight, Wow, no wonder that thing is so fast...and traps so well.

Even when the car weighed significantly more it still put down excellent numbers.

The car will soon be trapping 112+, even if you add two or 3 hundred pounds, thatd still put the car at mid 12's around 109-110 mph.

Kinda dispells the myth that it takes a lot of $$$ to lighten up a 3rdgen tho...
