New Setup

After 160 passes on existing 350, we have refreshed motor with following items:

Speed-Pro coated .125" domed pistons (12.9 CR)
248 int/251 ex. dur cam w/.531 - .542 lift solid cam
Hurricane single plane manifold.
Scat 4340 rods.
Professional products sfi balancer.

All engine bearings were replaced and cylinders honed to seat rings.

The heads remain pro-topline 200 cc intake/50 cc combustion chamber type. Will still use 750 DP (830 DP also ready) and 1-5/8 Hedman LT headers.

The combination of the cam and increased compression should improve overall 1/8th mile time and MPH.

Engine started easily and a compression test showed 210 PSI cranking pressure with lifters at zero lash. Idles well but vaccum is low at 9" @ 900n RPM.

Anyone want to guess what improvment will be? Prior bests are listed in profile.

Might want to look at a set of 1-3/4 Hooker super comps. Maybe even a steeper rear gear. You're getting close to my old bracket motor combo. After I had also added a 2.75 low gear to it the short times really improved as well. Bonus is that the converter will work a touch easier.

Currently running 4.30 in 9" w/28 X 10.5 X 15 slicks. Thought about using 4.88's but launch is still very dependant on track condition, tires still spin at times. Am going to relocate battery shortly to improve weight transfer. Also considering using 11.5" wide tire. Car picks up front wheels and launches level when it hooks good.

May run tomorrow night to test. There is a hurricane headed in our general direction that would prevent weekend racing.

How good is the fit on Hooker super comps? The hedmans make it hard to change plugs and also required trimming of lower a frame mounts.

The Hookers I found to be fairly straight forward as far as changing plugs, that's using a head with those old style 13/16 hex bodied plugs. As far as fit, they went right in without cutting anything. After a few times of removing them I tweaked the floor/firewall area near the oil filter boss to allow easier drop down out of engine bay. I had run both the 1-5/8 headers I run on the 305 and the Hookers. That motor always liked the bigger tubes better.

Muggsy,

I see that you have 50cc heads are they angled mill or straight cut? I'm just curious how close your valve to piston clearances are?

Thanks Jim

They are out of the box. I did have clearance problem with flattop 4 vr piston. Using Speedpro 2 vr .120" dome helped. The valve reliefs are much deeper. Now have about .150" on intake and .130" on ex. at zero lash. Squish cleance is .050".

Used clay and installed light springs to verify clearance throughout cycle.

Track was rained out tonight. Never got a pass in. Tomorrow we get to prepare for hurricane Frances. We live in Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks for the info.! I was curious because I plan on milling my heads to about 60cc and I plan on running a smaller cam so I wanted to see if I will be safe........

Also, I hope Frances decides to make a hard right for you guys so good luck and and be safe!
