launch pic of the car

well, tell me what you think. that launch was at about 1800rpms and was the start of all the ignition problems i'm facing. shortly after the launch, the car started to back fire and stuff. it's been 1 1/2 months since i raced last and the tree came down before i was able to get all the way onto the stall, which is about 2400rpms. anyway, heres a link to the pic.

Not bad at all considering your running 310 cubic inches. In fact that is very good. Interesting to see what your times will be when your car is all tuned out. Allen

That is pretty cool. Looks like the driver's tire is almost leaving the pavement

What RPM does your converter actually stall at with your engine?

ati converter stalls around 2300-2400 behind this motor. some say it needs more. i personally think that i haven't gotten enough good passes outta the combo to tell yet.

the dizzy...well, i ate the drive gear. i put a new msd iron gear on, it kinda helped. i still had popping and banging going on, so i replaced the cap and rotor. well, it helped a little, but still had problems, so i pulled my plugs. all 8 of my 2 week old plugs were covered in black soot. so i replaced them with some new autolights. fixed. well, sorta. drove it around the track pits and it seemed fine. i took it out on the road and beat on it a little and the car would kinda load up and pop a little, but not bad, i thought: "hey, its bearable".

someone said i should check float levels. i said ok and i went over to the car, started it up and checked the levels. it seemed a little low on the back and so i put the level up. well, i went out and the same thing happend, popping and banging all through the rpm range. mostly through the pipes, but occasionally through the intake. so, i brought it back to the trailer(oh, i'm at atlanta dragway right now, btw...) and put the float level back to where it was. still same problem. DANGIT! so...we pulled the carb off. the powervalve was ok, we thought it might be messed up because i banged it pretty hard, but it seemed fine. so, i pulled the vacuum secondary spring housing apart and pulled diaphragm and it was missing a corner. well, i replaced it with a new one and it is STILL MISSING! it's really driving me nuts. my father and i are going to put a powervalve plug in it tomorrow to see if that fixes things. and it probably could use another set of plugs. i really hope that my brand new plug wires aren't the culprit...

Did you check all the plugs to see if they're all firing clean? You might be seeing the effects of a bad plug wire(s).

But you did say that you returned back to the lower level. A friend of mine just went thru this same deal the last two outings we were at. Car ran great and put up a good number. He madea slight tweak to coax a tick more out of it and next run it popped and farted all theway down track. Undid the change and it ran great again. Next pass without changing a thing the miss is back. This went on for the whole weekend without resolution, one run great followed by the miss within the next pass or two. The following weekend it even worse. We finally took an a wire from my old set of wires and it was fixed. This was only after chasing thru the carb twice. A bad plug wire will may only show it's failing under load but seem fine at idle.
I did go back and read your post with all the info and from what you posted the trouble was there before you touched the floats. Maybe not as bad, but if it was popping on the street before it'll only be worse at the track.

another reason i don't think it's the plug wires is because the problem i was having occured with my old plug wires, then i went out and bought new ones to try to fix the problem, but the problem was still there after i put the new plug wires on.

That's kind of an important piece of info to leave out.

whoops, my bad...it's been a frustrating weekend to say the least. the first set of plugs i put in the car yesterday...get this...were two stages too cold. so, i fouled them pretty quick. won't run autolights again. put the acdelco r45t's in it and drove the car home with no problems. it's still a bit rich though.

Hate to break off the subject, but how fast was that red 05 mustang running?
